the calvary arrives in Smallville

It was time to mount a rescue effort in Kansas. After losing Clark to the Phantom Zone, April had helped Lionel get back to the safety of his mansion, and then had disappeared to the Nexus. Where she was able to find a couple of people who wanted to help keep the peace.

PINpointing back to the farmyard with her allies, April waited for everyone to get settled. Then she took a breath, and gave them a briefing. "So basically right now we have mass public panic, no technology is working, and there are several friends of Clark's that are missing."

"We have two enemies that we need to be concerned about," April pulls out two artist renditions. "The first is Brainaic, a Kryptonite supercomputer who has been posing as Professor Milton Fine. He has all the Kryptonian powers of flight, strength, speed and healing... but isn't affected by Kryptonite. Meteor rock. He can also shapechange. Chloe, you will go with Alice, Victor Van Dort, Doc and Marty to find Brainaic. Also do what you can for those innocents who need to be saved from this chaos. You will also need to find Martha Kent and Lois Lane, as they are both missing."

"The second is General Zod, who has taken possession of Lex Luthor. Once again Zod has all the Kryptonian powers, and I am not sure if meteor rock will affect him. I haven't had a chance to test it."

"Victor Allen and I will try to find Zod, as we have more experience with dealing with crazy Kryptonians. We will also look for a way to bring Clark out of the Phantom Zone."

"I am going to give each of you a piece of Kryptonite, just in case. And hopefully we can figure out a way to get through this situation." April took a breath. Hoping that their little plan would work for the better good.

((this will be a split thread. Alice and Her gang will go off with Chloe to deal with Brainaic. Victor Allen and April will deal with the Clark issue))

While Victor goes for the direct approach of throwing a meteor rock at Zod, April moves quickly to Lana's side. She will attempt to dislodge Zod's grasp on Lana, and hopefully the meteor rock makes it easier.

"Let her go, Zod."

Zod catches it on reflex, and though his face contorts with pain, he quickly draws back his arm and chucks the kryptonite off the roof before it can debilitate him. It's enough to loosen his grip on Lana for the moment though, and she quickly takes advantage of April's presence to get away.

"What is the meaning of this?" Zod demands. "You dare attack me?"

Lana is with April, that's good. So Victor should do exactly what Victor does, which is talk. Take the heat off of them, and hopefully April has a spell up her sleeve to help a sister out.

"Well gosh, you know how it is, country gal in a big city, I didn't know the rules. Hi, Zod. I'm Vic, by the way, like I said, new in town."

April takes her own piece of Kryptonite and slips it to Lana. "This will keep you safe from him. Keep it close."

Returning her attention to Zod, April goes for the other weakness of Kryptonians. And casts a entrapment spell. Hopefully it will keep Zod where they want him.

Lana's eyes go a little wide as she clutches at the meteor rock, because she knows what this means. She knew from back when the two aliens came out of the black ship, that this rock can hurt them. And that means that whoever this Zod guy is, he's one of them, monsters that fill her heart with fear.

Zod barely flinches at the spell, not recognizing what it is. His resistances and weaknesses are off, different from Clark, affected but not as severely. The human part of his host body at work, perhaps. "You stand in the presence of the destroyer of worlds. Kneel before Zod."

A little wince, half of a chuckle. "Sorry, no can do, it's kinda embarrassing but I have knee problems," she says, in a stage-whisper, like people do in the medication commercials for certain problems. "Comes from takin' too many hits back in the day. But I'll applaud for Zod." She claps her hands! "Go Zod!"

With the entrapment spell in place, and Victor providing amusing distraction, April is going to attempt a banishment spell. There are problems... mainly one she has no idea if it will work on a Kryptonian possession. And two, the banishment spell will affect her darker side. Like it did when she banished the Demon pretending to be Connor's daughter.

But right now it is the only plan she has. So she starts concentrating. Chanting silently in her mind, as her fingers tap at her side. For the most part -- it will appear as she is being the guardian of Lana. Imposing herself between Zod and the young woman.

Zod glares at Victor, and takes a step forward, towards her. His movement is slowed a bit by the spell, but he's so angry that he doesn't notice. "You mock me."

That big nervy grin just gets bigger. "I mock everyone, sir. It's... kinda what I do. Would you believe me if I said that it came out of a place of genuine respect and caring?"

Concentrating on the banishment spell, April is ignoring the small tingles of pain from inside her head. From the Beast. Ignoring the heat against her skin as the spell works its magic.

She has to be ready too, just in case Zod attempts to hit Victor to dodge infront of the way. She can take a hit a little better than Victor with the enhanced vampire healing.

"Your inane babbling serves no purpose." He clearly isn't impressed, and for the moment he's ignoring April. And the spell she's casting, which unfortunately won't work to banish him from Lex's body. "What do you hope to achieve?"

Good. Him ignoring April is exactly what she's after.

"An honest discourse between species. You know, maybe we could hash things out, have a couple brewskis, and come away from it as better, happier people."

After enduring some burns on the upper part of her arms, unseen from the others, April realizes a banishment spell won't work. Remembering that Victor had suggested a truth spell, she switches to that tactic.

There also has to be a glimmer of something, and April opens her voices to the situation. To Zod. To hopefully gain an insight that will assist them in their quest on the rooftop.

"Your species will fall. This world will burn." This is Zod giving her honest discourse, full of the cold disdain that his Disciples showed last summer, after the meteor shower. "You will kneel or you will die." There is no mercy in Zod's black heart, and Lex himself cannot help them, suppressed into unconsciousness underneath the stronger alien presence.

"I'm so sorry, sir, but I was honest about the kneeling thing. It's not as though I'm against a physical display of deference it's that I really do have knee issues. What do you stand to gain from eradicating a species?"

The cold, hard truth of what Zod wants is not surprising. April thinks for a moment, and considers another idea. Lex is still there... suppressed into unconsciousness right not. But she might be able to contact him.

Her telepathy was able to get through the King of Heart's power over Victor, to get to his trapped mind once. Maybe she has the power to do this. And she knows that telepathy can work on a Kryptonian mind.

Concentrating on her telepathic powers, April reaches into the mind of Zod. Hoping to find some way of reaching the trapped consciousness of Lex.

((bed time for me))

"They're vermin, infesting my new home. I'm simply 'cleaning house.'"

He's about to say more, but the sensation of someone else digging around in his mind gets his immediate attention and his head snaps around to glare at April. "Foolish creature!" His eyes blaze, and shoot blasts of heat vision at her.

Victor isn't fast enough to get between them, though that's her impulse, to dive between them, and she does it too late because of her lack of superspeed and the fact that she was decently far from April to start with so that Lex would be looking at her and not her, and she knuckles another piece of kryptonite (one she brought from home, from her backpack). "Back off, dude."

Though there is a twinge of something upset at the happenings. She doesn't feel as in control of the situation as she did before, he wasn't supposed to focus on April, this was never supposed to happen this way, they were going to truth spell him, ask questions which he would comically have to answer, find a way to save Clark, because he's their only lead. They need what he knows.

April has felt the sensation of heat vision before, when Clark saved her life that very first night they started dating. But the painful sensation that lands in the center of her chest is not the same experience. And April has the right sense of mind to at least dodge the other blasts.

When Victor comes in between her and Lex/Zod, April can sense the other woman's upset emotions. They have both learned that this is no TV comic enemy that can be tricked. And they have to start thinking of something else to take control of the situation.

Of course nothing is coming to mind. And April feels like screaming (especially with the sensation of the banishment and heat vision burns still sizzling on her skin). But she stands back up, and faces Zod.

And an idea hits her. "If this world is so unsuitable to you, with its vermin, why claim leadership over it?"

"The black ship will send out a signal, reshaping the planet's crust, reforming it into my home. And all will bow before me." He doesn't smile, but there is a dark satisfaction in his heart. "And because it will causes Kal-El the greatest pain."

It isn't that she thought he was a TV comic enemy, nothing like it, it's that she had thought that this is the one thing they had agreed on before they left; that this information is what they need to find Clark, and magic is the way to get it, because he can't be conventionally interrogated, because asking him why he's doing what he's doing won't give them what they need. It's like that scene in the movie where the bad guy gets shot dead when he's the only one who knows how to disarm the bomb and this is not supposed to happen.

She tries thinking that loudly in April's direction. What about the plan? What about their objective?

"What's the use of causing Kal-El pain if you can't see the look on his face when you do it?" she says. "Sounds kinda underwhelming to me."

April hasn't forgotten about the plan or the objective. Zod is under the spells, they are just not working as intended.

"That won't cause Kal-El the greatest pain." April states simply."He is not even here to witness any of this anymore. So there goes that theory."

"And he never will be again," Zod says simply. "Seeing his reaction is not necessary."

Lana has no idea who they're talking about, all she knows is that when the other aliens showed up they were looking for this Kal-El guy too. But she stays quiet, behind the other two, clutching at that piece of meteor rock.

Did you do the truth spell? Victor thinks, quite loudly once more, unsure if any of this is going through. Victor is so not psychic, and she doesn't know what April's done and hasn't done. Use the phrase 'I agree' when you talk next if yes, say 'concur' if no.

"I think it's pretty necessary. How does he even know you've done anything at all? He knows you plan to, but for all you know, he's holding onto hope."

"Oh I agree that hope is one of those stronger forces that Kal-El will have left to him." April uses the phrase that Victor had instructed, so she knows the truth spell has been completed.

"And there is a way to remove that hope forever." She is hoping the egotistically side of the Kryptonian general will fall into the trap. Wanting to know how to gain more power usually is a good bait for the Kryptonian enemies. "To become a feared Leader over much more."
