the calvary arrives in Smallville

It was time to mount a rescue effort in Kansas. After losing Clark to the Phantom Zone, April had helped Lionel get back to the safety of his mansion, and then had disappeared to the Nexus. Where she was able to find a couple of people who wanted to help keep the peace.

PINpointing back to the farmyard with her allies, April waited for everyone to get settled. Then she took a breath, and gave them a briefing. "So basically right now we have mass public panic, no technology is working, and there are several friends of Clark's that are missing."

"We have two enemies that we need to be concerned about," April pulls out two artist renditions. "The first is Brainaic, a Kryptonite supercomputer who has been posing as Professor Milton Fine. He has all the Kryptonian powers of flight, strength, speed and healing... but isn't affected by Kryptonite. Meteor rock. He can also shapechange. Chloe, you will go with Alice, Victor Van Dort, Doc and Marty to find Brainaic. Also do what you can for those innocents who need to be saved from this chaos. You will also need to find Martha Kent and Lois Lane, as they are both missing."

"The second is General Zod, who has taken possession of Lex Luthor. Once again Zod has all the Kryptonian powers, and I am not sure if meteor rock will affect him. I haven't had a chance to test it."

"Victor Allen and I will try to find Zod, as we have more experience with dealing with crazy Kryptonians. We will also look for a way to bring Clark out of the Phantom Zone."

"I am going to give each of you a piece of Kryptonite, just in case. And hopefully we can figure out a way to get through this situation." April took a breath. Hoping that their little plan would work for the better good.

((this will be a split thread. Alice and Her gang will go off with Chloe to deal with Brainaic. Victor Allen and April will deal with the Clark issue))

"Victor, this is Lionel Luthor. And Lionel, Victor." A quick introduction.

"We were sort of hoping you might know a thing or two about Phantom Zones. Zod told us a few unpleasant things." April is glad they can do the direct approach (for the most part) with Lionel Luthor.

Lionel looks up at them, a strange sort of look on his face. "I wish I could, but my connection with Jor-El and the Fortress is gone. I can't feel his presence anymore. Ever since that light... the one that brought Zod here. All I know is what I knew before."

"Nice to meet you." Then: "Oh, okay. Okay, that's still alright, we can still look for other sources of information."

A little concerned for Lionel, April comes to his side. And places a hand on his. "It must feel weird not to have that connection. We will get it back."

"We were able to save Lana from Zod." Good news might help.

"That is a relief to hear," Lionel agrees. "I assume you got Miss Lang to a safe location? If there is such a thing in these times."

"Yeah, uh, in your office building. I figured people're less likely to raid an office. Labs, yeah. Electronics stores and grocery stores, definitely. But you don't deal in information once the computers stop working, and what're looters gonna steal, boxes of paperclips?"

From her vantage point at Lionel's side, April notes the Kryptonian knife. "Is that the knife that Jor-El gave Clark to destroy the vessel of Zod? Lex?"

He nods. "Yes. I took it from the barn floor when we left. I thought... with Clark gone, we might need it."

"Wait, to... do the stabby-stabby at Lex?" She mimes a stabbing motion like the classy gal she is.

"Yes. Jor-El said killing Lex would prevent Zod from harming anyone on Earth." April touched the strange knife. Maybe it would give her a vision.

"I believe we may need to do just that," Lionel says, with shades of regret, but determination. "One life for the lives of many."

The knife is cold and silent, like the Fortress that spawned it. Like many of the hard questions, it seems this is something they need to decide on their own.

"No, no, no, he's still in there, that's jacked up. We can't kill an innocent man, there's gotta be another way to restrain him."

"I don't know how. The entrapment spell didn't work. The banishment spell didn't work. The truth spell got us information... but nothing that will help Clark get back." April places her hand over the knife. "And if I can protect him by doing this..."

"Lex is far from innocent. But in this instance, you're right. However, if we do nothing, Zod will exterminate the human race."

"We could get him to another world. We could try another spell... do you know any rituals, is there anything we can do to strengthen your focus? We have a little time, now. Access to more." She rubs at the bandaid on her wrist.

April knows that Victor's words will likely bring more questions from Lionel later. She can deal with those later.

"There is still that one world. As for spells... there was a joining spell that can strength one, but it requires four elements of heart, mind, power and magic. And the only thing else that might fit is a binding spell."

"A binding spell, Miss April?" Lionel asks, raising an eyebrow.

Victor smiles a huge, toothy 'oh crap' smile. You know, the sort that's ordinarily accompanied by nervous laughter. She didn't know what she wasn't supposed to say. "My bad."

"Its okay Victor. As Jor-El's oracle, Lionel won't betray information that is helpful to Clark fulfilling his destiny." April brushes a hand through her hair. "I know you have assumed I am not of this world, Lionel. And that much is true. The whole truth is I am not even from this dimension."

"In my dimension, there are these bad, evil creatures called Demons. A binding spell enables a caster to contain her target, preventing that target from doing any harm to others. It just might work in this case."

"I see." To his credit, he takes the news in stride, even though he's clearly surprised. "No wonder Lex was never able to track down any information on you. I'm curious for the details but they will have to wait."

"How confident are you in this... spell?"

"And... what can we get you, for the strengthening thingy? I mean, I got heart and mind, but I kinda need it to stay on the inside, so hopefully, y' know, that's part of it." She knows a lot of these things are metaphors, and symbolism, and she needs to know what she can do.

"The joining spell is draining on those who give a piece of themselves, but it is more spirtual. When they did it for Buffy, she had the power as the Slayer. Xander had Heart, Willow had Magic and Giles had Mind. They did the spell and Buffy was able to have all four powers for her use."

"We also have to consider that we have other sources of power... not in the room with us. But they could still give of themselves."

"The binding spell is extremely useful... in my dimension. It has binded powerful Demons before. Kept them from harming others."

"My entrapment spell had a bit of a effect on Zod. I think that the binding spell could work... if used properly."

Lionel strokes his chin thoughtfully. "This binding spell... is it difficult to prepare? We may not have much time."

"Yeah...." In that case, maybe they should skip the strengthening and go right to the binding, because time is of the essence, but would it work as well, what do they have for it. There's only three of them here.

"Not really. One can do it any room, because you just need four corners." April moves around the room. She uses a dark crayon to sketch small symbols in each of the corners. The east, the west, the north and the south.

"All that would be left is the words you cast when your target enters the area." And that would mean Zod himself.
