the calvary arrives in Smallville

It was time to mount a rescue effort in Kansas. After losing Clark to the Phantom Zone, April had helped Lionel get back to the safety of his mansion, and then had disappeared to the Nexus. Where she was able to find a couple of people who wanted to help keep the peace.

PINpointing back to the farmyard with her allies, April waited for everyone to get settled. Then she took a breath, and gave them a briefing. "So basically right now we have mass public panic, no technology is working, and there are several friends of Clark's that are missing."

"We have two enemies that we need to be concerned about," April pulls out two artist renditions. "The first is Brainaic, a Kryptonite supercomputer who has been posing as Professor Milton Fine. He has all the Kryptonian powers of flight, strength, speed and healing... but isn't affected by Kryptonite. Meteor rock. He can also shapechange. Chloe, you will go with Alice, Victor Van Dort, Doc and Marty to find Brainaic. Also do what you can for those innocents who need to be saved from this chaos. You will also need to find Martha Kent and Lois Lane, as they are both missing."

"The second is General Zod, who has taken possession of Lex Luthor. Once again Zod has all the Kryptonian powers, and I am not sure if meteor rock will affect him. I haven't had a chance to test it."

"Victor Allen and I will try to find Zod, as we have more experience with dealing with crazy Kryptonians. We will also look for a way to bring Clark out of the Phantom Zone."

"I am going to give each of you a piece of Kryptonite, just in case. And hopefully we can figure out a way to get through this situation." April took a breath. Hoping that their little plan would work for the better good.

((this will be a split thread. Alice and Her gang will go off with Chloe to deal with Brainaic. Victor Allen and April will deal with the Clark issue))

"I'm not breaking this world. I'm glorifying it." He gives them that superior, disdainful look again, and turns to walk away. "I will return."

But when he tries to cross the threshold of the study, he's stopped in his tracks, rebounding slightly like bouncing off a wall. He reaches out to strike at the invisible wall, and succeeds only in creating a loud crack as the motion breaks the sound barrier, and little else. "Force field technology. I thought this world was not so far advanced."

She rubs at her ears, thinking owwie thoughts, jumps, she is feeling rather jittery indeed. She has a stroke of genius and slides her little piece of kryptonite across the floor, to rest just inside the bounds of the trap. She figures if he can't get through, objects he throws might not be able to get through. Like a crab trap, they can get in but not out. "Soooo. There's that. You should, uh. Reverse. What you're doing. Please."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
It is at least one good thing that the binding spell has prevented Zod from leaving. April watches as Victor slides kryptonite towards Zod. She herself doesn't have any more pieces, unfortunately.

"Unfortunately, we think this world is good the way it is."

[identity profile] smallvillians.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Zod steps aside, out of range, and he doesn't know what they're doing but he doesn't like it at all. "You think you can hold me?" he says, turning that icy glare on them. "I have no reason to cease, and every reason to take what is rightfully mine."

He steps towards Victor, going to hit her, to silence this impudent human and mount her head on the wall. But his hand bounces off her, too. Which makes him even more annoyed. "Protective shielding."

[identity profile] victormakesart.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank God and all of the other gods and all of the saints in heaven amen." Victor feels like she's going to get sick all over everything, and she feels her knees go wobbly, and all she can imagine is, over and over again, her head shattering wet like a melon. The only outside show of that is the way her voice quavers when she says, "Or you can cease. You know. All the cool kids are doing it."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Picking up the images from Victor, April just can't imagine what would have happened if Zod had been able to make contact. They have to stop him.

April moves forward, holding her PINpoint ready. Maybe there is a chance they can send him to that Earth with a Red Sun. She is allowing Victor to distract Zod again, hoping to get close enough.

[identity profile] smallvillians.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Zod may be contained for the moment, but his powers are still there, and he zips to the other side of the room. "You are persistent. But your actions are futile."

[identity profile] victormakesart.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Look. Bro. I could speechify about the persistence of the human spirit, but I don't feel up to it, plus it isn't anything you haven't heard before I'm sure. So cliffnotes: I'm right, you're wrong, and we're keeping our world."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Attempting to get close to Zod is not going to work. They basically have a wild animal trapped in a big cage. And April is not sure what to do with him.

Bathed under working lights, she considers something. Lionel... She makes contact with the older Luthor. Do you have your connection with the Fortress back?

[identity profile] smallvillians.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Lionel doesn't flinch or reply outwardly, even though he wasn't expecting to hear a telepathic message. No. It's still gone.

"You saying so does not make it correct," Zod says to Victor, sneering. "And this prison you've built will not hold me forever."

[identity profile] victormakesart.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, aha, yes, yes, quite," she says, with a nervous laugh, almost a little shrill. "So you might as well tell us about this plan of yours. Since you're stuck here, and we're stuck watching you stay stuck here."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
April ticks off another option that is lost to them. She shifts to vampire mode. That will give her at least some enhanced speed and agility to her advantage. The joining spell... while powerful... would be too obvious to cast right now.

"We just need to hold you long enough, Zod."

[identity profile] smallvillians.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Long enough for what?" He's pushing at the boundaries of the spell, testing it, turning his strength on it. It's holding up for now, but if he tries hard enough, the human part of him will allow him to break free. "You have no plan."

[identity profile] victormakesart.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Long enough to put you in another trap. We got an endless supply, honey." She's bluffing, but Victor pretty much bluffs for a living, and she's studying her fingernails all casually. "We could be here for years, taking shifts."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"The brilliant thing about humans is that they improvise brilliantly." April smirks a little at that.

Victor. He is testing my spell. He might be able to break it soon.

[identity profile] smallvillians.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
At the same time all of this is happening, a light begins to descend from the sky, soaring down like a meteor made of energy. One that splits into seven lights, going seven ways, and crashes into the fields of Kansas.

"Then perhaps I shall simply burn this pathetic building to the ground, with you in it," he says, his eyes flaring golden orange with the threat of heat vision.

[identity profile] victormakesart.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't do that, if I were you," she says. "You saw what it did when you tried to hit me, think of what it'll do when you shoot fire from your eyeballs."

For such a reserved, well-behaved person, Vic sure knows a lot of terrible curse words, in many, many languages, and she doesn't say them but she thinks about five at once, layered like a curse sandwich. Along with a healthy dose of not good not good not good not good.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Curse thoughts are filtered appropriately. She noted the light outside, but can't worry about the splitting energy right now.

April has to do something. Even if it means sacrificing herself to save the better good. Maybe now is a good time for you and Lionel to make an exit.

[identity profile] smallvillians.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"I think that this structure is not as protected from me as you'd like to believe. And regardless of what transpires, I shall not be harmed." If ever a Kryptonian could be smug, Zod is certainly fitting the bill.

[identity profile] victormakesart.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
We're all making an exit, if it comes to that. Put your finger on your PINpoint button, and get ready for if he does it. Taking her own advice, she links arms with Lionel, takes a good deep breath, and says to him, quietly, "No matter what happens, you're gonna be safe."

She has her finger on the button.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Victor. I can handle fire. I need to make an attack. Before April can be talked out of this, she darts forward. Using what enhanced speed she has to grab that knife and go for Zod. Maybe she could just wound him, instead having to kill the vessel.

[identity profile] smallvillians.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Zod manages to dodge, the knife slicing into his long black coat, only just missing cutting into him. And he superspeeds towards the doorway again, this time refusing to stop, or bounce back, pushing as hard as he can. And the spell starts to fail.

[identity profile] victormakesart.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
It all happens so fast that Victor isn't allowed to protest and when she does she does it loudly. She doesn't understand what purpose an attack serves at this point, other than to make the spell fall apart faster by poking at it; they were holding up fine without physically antagonizing the creature they have in the cage.

Why did you do that? thinks a very upset Victor. You didn't need to make an attack!

It's not because she's a pacifist, it's because it literally doesn't make sense to her, when they were on a roll, when they could have kept him longer.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
The spell wasn't lasting. And we need to hinder him somehow Victor. April really didn't know what else they could have done.

She concentrates and enforces the doorway with a mental shield. Magic strengthened by magic might help. If you have any other ideas, now would be the time to use them.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Fortunately, more ideas are not necessary. Because as Zod finally pushes through the binding spell, there's a whoosh and then he's flying backwards to crash into - and mostly through - the wall. And Clark steps through the doorway, his clothing tattered and slashed, and covered in dried blood. "Going somewhere?"
