the calvary arrives in Smallville

It was time to mount a rescue effort in Kansas. After losing Clark to the Phantom Zone, April had helped Lionel get back to the safety of his mansion, and then had disappeared to the Nexus. Where she was able to find a couple of people who wanted to help keep the peace.

PINpointing back to the farmyard with her allies, April waited for everyone to get settled. Then she took a breath, and gave them a briefing. "So basically right now we have mass public panic, no technology is working, and there are several friends of Clark's that are missing."

"We have two enemies that we need to be concerned about," April pulls out two artist renditions. "The first is Brainaic, a Kryptonite supercomputer who has been posing as Professor Milton Fine. He has all the Kryptonian powers of flight, strength, speed and healing... but isn't affected by Kryptonite. Meteor rock. He can also shapechange. Chloe, you will go with Alice, Victor Van Dort, Doc and Marty to find Brainaic. Also do what you can for those innocents who need to be saved from this chaos. You will also need to find Martha Kent and Lois Lane, as they are both missing."

"The second is General Zod, who has taken possession of Lex Luthor. Once again Zod has all the Kryptonian powers, and I am not sure if meteor rock will affect him. I haven't had a chance to test it."

"Victor Allen and I will try to find Zod, as we have more experience with dealing with crazy Kryptonians. We will also look for a way to bring Clark out of the Phantom Zone."

"I am going to give each of you a piece of Kryptonite, just in case. And hopefully we can figure out a way to get through this situation." April took a breath. Hoping that their little plan would work for the better good.

((this will be a split thread. Alice and Her gang will go off with Chloe to deal with Brainaic. Victor Allen and April will deal with the Clark issue))

April has felt the sensation of heat vision before, when Clark saved her life that very first night they started dating. But the painful sensation that lands in the center of her chest is not the same experience. And April has the right sense of mind to at least dodge the other blasts.

When Victor comes in between her and Lex/Zod, April can sense the other woman's upset emotions. They have both learned that this is no TV comic enemy that can be tricked. And they have to start thinking of something else to take control of the situation.

Of course nothing is coming to mind. And April feels like screaming (especially with the sensation of the banishment and heat vision burns still sizzling on her skin). But she stands back up, and faces Zod.

And an idea hits her. "If this world is so unsuitable to you, with its vermin, why claim leadership over it?"

"The black ship will send out a signal, reshaping the planet's crust, reforming it into my home. And all will bow before me." He doesn't smile, but there is a dark satisfaction in his heart. "And because it will causes Kal-El the greatest pain."

It isn't that she thought he was a TV comic enemy, nothing like it, it's that she had thought that this is the one thing they had agreed on before they left; that this information is what they need to find Clark, and magic is the way to get it, because he can't be conventionally interrogated, because asking him why he's doing what he's doing won't give them what they need. It's like that scene in the movie where the bad guy gets shot dead when he's the only one who knows how to disarm the bomb and this is not supposed to happen.

She tries thinking that loudly in April's direction. What about the plan? What about their objective?

"What's the use of causing Kal-El pain if you can't see the look on his face when you do it?" she says. "Sounds kinda underwhelming to me."

April hasn't forgotten about the plan or the objective. Zod is under the spells, they are just not working as intended.

"That won't cause Kal-El the greatest pain." April states simply."He is not even here to witness any of this anymore. So there goes that theory."

"And he never will be again," Zod says simply. "Seeing his reaction is not necessary."

Lana has no idea who they're talking about, all she knows is that when the other aliens showed up they were looking for this Kal-El guy too. But she stays quiet, behind the other two, clutching at that piece of meteor rock.

Did you do the truth spell? Victor thinks, quite loudly once more, unsure if any of this is going through. Victor is so not psychic, and she doesn't know what April's done and hasn't done. Use the phrase 'I agree' when you talk next if yes, say 'concur' if no.

"I think it's pretty necessary. How does he even know you've done anything at all? He knows you plan to, but for all you know, he's holding onto hope."

"Oh I agree that hope is one of those stronger forces that Kal-El will have left to him." April uses the phrase that Victor had instructed, so she knows the truth spell has been completed.

"And there is a way to remove that hope forever." She is hoping the egotistically side of the Kryptonian general will fall into the trap. Wanting to know how to gain more power usually is a good bait for the Kryptonian enemies. "To become a feared Leader over much more."

"He can do nothing. And neither can you." Zod is unshakably confident in this. He thinks that he's won already. "This world will fall."

They're back on track, then, and now's the time to test whether it works at all, or whether he laughs in their faces. Files in her mind reshuffle, accounting for Lana, accounting for positioning, for the kryptonite in her hand, for how close they are to the exit, to each other so that they can PINpoint if need be.

"Yeah, uh... falling world, it's gonna be awesome, how do you get your hands on a gateway to the Phandom Zone?"

Their PINpoints might be their last resort to dealing with Zod. And April sends a flicker of a memory to Victor, of her and April dealing with Clark under the silver Kryptonite poisoning. They still have that Red-Sun Earth dimension in their PINpoints. They could use it against Zod.

"I wasn't thinking of trying to stop you. After all, you have proved yourself to be stronger than Kal-El."

Zod just looks at Victor, arrogant and cold as ever. "You don't. All the portals have been destroyed."

He regards them all with a gaze that speaks of superiority, of looking down on insects to be squashed under his heel. "I must go. There is work to be done."

"Say you left a really important handbag in the Phantom Zone and it has your wallet in it, how would you go about retrieving it?"

Come on come on come on, this can't be it.

April is already feeling the sensation that there is nothing they can do. It has been a long three days for her, and she is ready to give up. April moves to help Lana, and ensure that the young woman is not taken.

Maybe Zod will give a clue to helping Clark, but April is pretty sure their grand scheme of getting answers is dead in the water.

"Then it is gone forever. Just like Kal-El, and all the other prisoners." Zod is quite obviously not very broken up about this. And though the entrapment spell slows him considerably, it's not enough to prevent him from leaping skyward, soaring away into the smoky Metropolis sky.

"What the hell is going on?" Lana demands shakily, once he's gone.

"No," she says firmly, once he leaves, looking over her shoulder to April. "He's not gone forever, it just means we have to look at other universal technology. Opening our own portals. We have the multiverse at our disposal and nothing is hopeless."

"Aliens. Aliens are going on. But that's okay, because we're gonna fix it."

"How's your... the eyeblasts, how're you holding up?"

"I thought Clark had told you that Lex wasn't Lex." April replied to Lana's question. "Basically, Lex has been possessed by an alien spirit. And he is not Lex anymore. He is Zod."

April looks down at the burn area. "Still a little pain. But we have other things to be concerned about." She can't mention about her enhanced healing in front of Lana.

"He did, but I didn't believe him. He's one of those things, isn't he? From the black ship." At this point, she has no idea that Clark is also 'one of those things,' and probably wouldn't react well if she found out. "Who's Kal-El? Why do they all want him so badly?"

"Kal-El's one of the good guys. They want him because he's so good, and they suck hardcore. You know, the basic story of good versus a-hole. Is there anything I can get either of you? To make you more comfortable, or ease your mind? I have, like, everything in my backpack."

"As the good guy, Kal-El can stop Zod and the rest of the bad aliens. Unfortunately the ones from the black ship are all bad." April doesn't want Lana to think all Kryptonians are necessarily evil. Or things for that matter.

April knows that blood would help her heal faster, but she can't ask (or take) for any in front of Lana. "We should get Lana to safety."

"How do you know all of this?" Lana doesn't understand, and is still overwhelmed that this is even happening. Far below in the streets, the rioting continues, people driven by anger and desperation.

"We have inside intel. Remember to take deep breaths. We'll get you somewhere safe." A glance to April. "One of the offices, you think? A good spot, and she won't have to go down on the street."

"We will take her to Lionel's office. It is the most secure." Then afterward they can think of what to do next.

Perhaps finding Lionel would be a good idea. Lionel is Jor-El's oracle, Victor. I think we should go to him next

"Wait, you are not leaving me here by myself," Lana says, a bit alarmed. "What are you going to do?"

Victor is viewing this the way she views the zombie apocalypse, because really it's not so different. Masses of uncontrollable people. "The safest possible place you can be right now is on a high floor of this building. If people are looting, they won't make it up this high. We're gonna see what we can do to try to... get this issue fixed."

"Lana. You are a strong woman. You will be fine here." April replies softly. "We will make sure that we come back for you when this situation is fixed."
