When it came to dating, it was nice to have time alone with Clark. But really, they weren't able to socialize with other couples because in his world it would mean keeping too many secrets. So today April had an idea.

She arranged for a table for four at a nice diner that had a beautiful view of the Tiber River. And close by, there was an alleyway that would allow privacy for those with PINpoint to arrive for the lunch. After that was all arranged, April sent out two invitations.

To Kairos: Hey Kairos, I would like to invite you and Connor to a lunch with me and Clark. PINpoint coordinates are attached. It is a nice casual event. I hope you can attend.

Then to Clark: Hey sweetie. I thought it would be nice to spend some time with another couple who met in the Nexus. I have invited Kairos and Connor to lunch, and would love you at my side. PINpoint coordinates are attached. See you soon!

With that done, all that is left is to wait.

Clark avoids the alcoholic beverages entirely. He's still underage and it's been drilled into him that he has to obey all the laws that he can - not that it's ever stopped him from draining bars dry when he's under the influence of red kryptonite. But he's on his best behavior, so he settles for just a Coca-Cola.

"Pizza works for me too." He's had pizza loads of times, but the cheap American delivery version, not real Italian pizza. And he's not picky about toppings, so long as there aren't peas on it. "I'll eat just about anything."

Kairos is 29 19, and in France she's legal age to drink. But she doesn't drink often (because she's a lightweight.) "Pizza totally works. With extra cheese?" she asks hopefully.

She'll go ahead and chose something feminine and fruity to drink, along with a glass of ice water.

Connor is four-hundred-ninety-two. He might be physically nineteen, but he'd argue that being born before there was a legal drinking age gives him every right to booze it up. He'll just order a beer, though, and if he's carded, he has an ID that says his name is Russell Nash and he was born October 22, 1945. He should really get an updated alias.

"Yeah, pizza with anything." Connor tries a smile, but it's still a tense one.

Clark's seventeen, a year older than Italy's minimum drinking age in public, but he's not old enough at home and he knows his parents would be disappointed if he abused the opportunity to bend the rules. And he can't get drunk, so it holds little appeal for him anyhow. Kal only does it because it's forbidden and he thinks it's funny.

"Extra cheese is totally fine with me. I'm a big fan of sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, all that stuff."

Kai grins at Clark. "Sounds yummy. I like onions and peppers too."

Connor smiles weakly at Kairos, and reaches to squeeze her hand under the table. "Okay. Whatever you guys want." American slang in a mixed European accent sounds strange.

"They are so going to look at us weirdly, but I am totally game with all the toppings that were mentioned." April decided, flagging a waitress. She has no official ID, so will settle for a mocktail.

"One pizza, extra cheese, sausages, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and sun-dried tomatoes. Extra large. With four plates please."

With that settles, April relaxes slightly. "How have things been with you both since I last saw you?" It is directed at Kairos and Connor.

Clark grins. "It's not that weird. Pete and I once ordered a pizza with pineapple, anchovies, and bean sprouts. It was the most disgusting pizza ever, so of course we ate the whole thing. I think we were about eleven."

Kai chuckles. "That's.. really freaking cute. My sister and I didn't get good pizza 'till we moved to Sanctuary. The Magistrate had Ideas of how foreign food should be. Which it stupid."

And then to answer April's question.
"Well. Connor's back. I think I unwittingly became someone's pimp. Otherwise, it's been pretty quiet at home."

Connor glances at Kairos sharply, bewildered. "What do you mean, someone's pimp?" He adds in an aside for April and Clark's benefit, "I... was visiting my kinsman. My old student. We had some things to work out."

"The reason I noted we would be getting strange looks, because in Italy they don't really put a lot of anything on their pizza. It is designed as a lighter meal."

April too gave Kairos a concerned look at her pimp statement.

"How did you visit with the clansmate go Connor?"

"Oh." Ever the oblivious farmboy tourist. "Today, the part of obnoxious American tourist will be played by Clark Kent," he jokes.

He, too, gives Kairos a bit of a confused look at the pimp remark. How does that happen on accident?

"It's sort of a joke." And sort of not. "My friend John. He's a good guy, but he just can't hold down a job well. So he's forever looking for these side jobs to make a little money. So I offered him a job delivering packages for me, but I don't think he was really feeling it." She shrugs. "And .. taking in his favorite things to do, I suggested becoming an escort. He can take a woman or a guy out, treat them to dinner, be charming and keep them safe back home. Which he latched on to, and .." she sighs. "He was going to write an ad, you guys. To put in the paper! So I gave him the name and number of someone who likes a handsome man to take her out. She uses them a lot. I figure she can pass on his name if she approved of the evening." She pauses and blushes. "No sex, though the law in Sanctuary requires you to register and be routinely checked for diseases, just in case."

Connor stares at her a little, blinks, and lets out a staccato chuckle. "And I was afraid I might be a bad influence..."

"This John characters does sound like an interesting person." April laughed. "I mean I am unemployed but I wouldn't be suited for escort business."

Clark feels rather like he's wandered into the middle of a minefield. "Uh, wow." He really can't think of much else to say that won't insult somebody or show his ignorance of such things. "I guess if he likes doing that and he's good at it, good luck to him."

Kai grins. "Captain John Hart. Yeah, wow. He's been around the Nexus, he's probably talked to you guys a time or two. Taking old women out for dinner and showing them a good time is pretty much not the worst thing he's ever done. I'm not sure I'd be good at it either. I get attached easily." She looks over at Connor for a moment. "Plus.. well, this counts as one of my first dates ever."

Connor's unemployed too, but he's not about to volunteer for that job. He'd have to be around people.

"...You didn't tell me that, either." He looks just a little sheepish, because it strikes him anew how inexperienced she is next to him. How inexperienced all three of them are... Clark's looking awkward, and they haven't even really said anything dirty yet.
Belatedly, he pick up the question from April. "The visit went... better than I could have hoped." He smiles a little, but doesn't seem about to elaborate unless he's interrogated. He still has a brother in Duncan, and that's the best outcome he could dream of.

Taking Clark's hand, April smiles at him. "Its almost too bad that Clark is like the one-man working crew at his farm. There is some neat stuff around his place. It is such an amazing place."

Then she smiles at Connor. "Thats good. Sometimes things working out better than you hoped is all you can take away from a situation."

Poor Connor. He seems to be the most experienced at relationships out of the three of them. "There is nothing better than a first date. I still remember my first date ever... but then again it was just a month or so ago. With Clark."

He thinks back, but he can't recall ever meeting a John Hart. His future self has, but mistook him for Brainiac, who Clark hasn't met quite yet.

He gives April's hand a little grateful squeeze, and smiles back. "It's good, honest work. Mom's been making Dad let me do more of the chores, because of his heart. He doesn't like it, but he knows I can handle it."

And he tries not to look too embarrassed at talking relationships with other people. "I think it might be my first date where I haven't had to bail on a girl to go save someone."

Kairos isn't going to mention that most of the 'dates' she'd been on weren't of the innocent sort. It's pretty weird. She's incredibly young and naive in some ways, but not at all in others.

"But here we are, in Rome, with our favorite people. It's impressive."

"Heh. My Italian is probably rusty. Been a while since I've been here." He smiles weakly, and leans over a little, just enough so that his shoulder bumps against Kairos' shoulder. He knows just how not innocent she is in certain departments, since she's been the one making the first moves. Connor can't remember his own first date, but that's because they didn't really do dating, back when he met his first wife.

He takes a breath, and makes what's pretty obviously a forced effort at being sociable. "What kind of farm?"

"It is nice to have a quiet moment in Rome. And the language is so beautiful. I have been learning as much as I can. Improve my repetorie of languages known." April smiled. This Rome would feel a little different than the one that Connor might know. The Buffyverse has a slight disconcerting peace to it at times. This is one of them.

"But as much I love Rome... I enjoy spending time in Smallville."

"Oldest farm in Smallville," Clark answers with a proud smile. "We're one of the biggest mass producers of corn in Kansas, and Mom runs a side garden with organic vegetables that we sell at market. We also have dairy cows, although that hasn't been as profitable since we had to replace the herd a few years ago. Someone dumped toxic waste in the pasture and poisoned the entire herd." He's not sure how interesting farm life will be to the others, but he's happy talking about it if they ask. And, of course, he knows that April enjoys spending time in Smallville, which makes him even prouder of his hometown. The girlfriend stamp of approval is very important to him, and she's the first person he's dated who didn't grow up there.

Kai smiles down at Connor's hand, taking it in hers. She appreciates the effort he's putting into the date. "Getting out to see the different worlds is .. it's something else. I bet Smallville is lovely. I was in Louisiana for a bit, but .. I didn't get to see much. I like America." Usually when she was in New Orleans, she wasn't encouraged to look around, as there were dangers all over the place.
