valentine's day is a time for lovers

For April, during her 800-years of training with the Masters, she had never really given much thought to special holidays. Birthdays, Christmas, or even Valentine's Day. But now that she is with Rain, there is going to be a celebration of their love today, in commemoration of Valentine's Day.

The day will start off simple enough, with a break from training for Rain. Which might be appreciated, after a week of training, and slaying (which has improved even further). But this is not unusually for a Sunday, because it is often a day of rest for the Slayer at the end of each week.

The thing that makes today special, in a romantic way, will be presented closer to evening. When it is time for supper, and Rain will discover that April has set out a picnic blanket and an assortment of romantic foods, including strawberries, chocolate, oysters and whipped cream.

Tonight, April is wearing a seductive animal-print dress, and has the lighting of the room down low. An assortment of candles will give them enough light to eat by. And there is soft music playing in the background.

Giving a soft chuckle of contentment, April licked at the strawberry, then took a small taste.

"Happy Valentine's day baby."

"Happy Valentine's day to you, Rain." April smiled. She reached behind her, to pull out a small box, then presented it to him.

He smiles. "What's this?" He takes it from her.

"Something that will help you in the field, and remind you of me." April smiles. The small box contains a silver necklace, with a run of protection hanging at the bottom. Her initials and his are engraved on the back.

He smiles broadly and leans over to kiss her. "Thank you. I got you something too."

He hands her a small box. Inside is a family ring with her birthstone and his and the word FAMILY inside the band. Also a leather cord necklace with a small crystal shaped vial hanging from it. It had red liquid inside that smelled of his blood.

He can see how touched April is at the ring and the necklace. Firstly, for Rain to consider her family, is very special. Secondly, the vial of his blood is immediately hung around her neck. "Wow... this is just amazing Rain."

"You're my only family. Hence the ring. You give me strength and my blood makes YOU strong, so I want you to always have some with you for emergencies."

April moves forward to wrap her arms around his neck. "And I consider you family. And you give me strength."

"I am so glad you came into my life."

"I guess we were meant to be. Brought together by fate or something.". If only he knew.

She often wonders if she should share with him about the destiny the Masters told her. Today is no exception.

"I would happily accept that."

"So would I." he kisses her again, then puts his gift around his neck. "I don't think there's a better match out there for me anywhere. I'm very lucky."

"I am glad you think so." There will be another gift. Later. But right now, April just feeds him another strawberry.

"Mmmm." he takes a bite, savoring it. "How did you know I liked strawberries?"

"Educated guess." Every since first taking his blood, April has almost had a sixth-sense for what Rain likes.

"Well look at you. Sexy as hell and smarter than I could ever hope to be." That could be so handy in so many ways.

"Tsk tsk. You are sexy. And smart."

"Oh I know I'm sexy, but I'm not as smart as you are. Not by a long shot. There's a reason you're the teacher."

"I have 800 years of education behind me. You are still young. And besides, you have taught me new things, let us not forget that."

"Only because I'm awesome in bed." he teased.

"You are indeed. Something I had not mastered in my 800 years of study." April nuzzles him. She swirls some whipped cream on her fingertip, offering it to his mouth.

"But maybe... we are meant to balance each other."

He takes her fingertip gratefully, sucking it clean. "Do you think so?"

"I know so. In what I lack, I shall learn from you. In what you lack, you shall learn from me. Together, we will be stronger." She kisses his neck.

"I love you, you know that?" He says, snuggling into her lips.

"Yes. But it is still nice to hear." April gently nibbled his bottom lip. "I love you too."
