dinner date with Clark
April was still up on Cloud Nine, after she and Clark had started to officially be girlfriend and boyfriend. And tonight, she had a thought that since their 'first date' had been not quite real due to a de-aging LOL that she would make him dinner for an official first date.
The menu was simple enough, because even though April looked to cook and create, she still had inherited some unfortunate cooking accidents from her mother. She had selected Italian-flavored dishes to serve tonight. Shrimp and Pesto Linguine, Mushroom and Onion Frittata, and Strawberry bellini for dessert.
The dishes were light enough for summer time, easy enough to follow, and were smelling quite delicious by the time April had set the table. Also set at the table, on Clark's plate, was a small gift-wrapped package.
All that remained was to wait for Clark to arrive.

He's dressed up a bit, trading his usual red and blue for a nice button-down shirt. He doesn't know what her favorite flowers are, or if she even likes flowers, but he brought along a bouquet of azaleas anyway.
Feeling a little awkward, he hesitates a moment and knocks on her door.

Opening the door, her heart literally skips a beat when she sees Clark looking very nice in his attire. And smiles at the flowers in his hand. "Welcome! Come on in!"

He steps inside on autopilot, then remembers what these plantlike things in his hand are for and offers them to her. "These are for you. I don't know whether you're allergic or you hate flowers or anything but I was passing through a flowershop in South America and I thought they might be nice." He does ramble a little when he gets nervous.

After doing that, she takes his arm and gently kissed his cheek. "Supper is on the table. You have perfect timing."

Clark whistles lowly at the sight of the food. "Wow, April. This looks great. I wondered what smelled so good."
no subject
There is of course a gift on Clark's plate that will prevent food from being served right away. "I hope you like Italian. It's crazy that I adore it so. Guess the whole garlic thing and vampires is a myth."

He eyes the box curiously, picking it up with the same care he'd use to handle a wine glass. "For me?" He could peek through the wrapping and find out what it is, but he doesn't want to spoil the surprise.

He's not entirely sure what the etiquette is for the girl giving the guy gifts, but he's never one to be rude and insult the other person by saying they shouldn't have, so he smiles gratefully and unwraps it.

Contained inside the box is Clark's very own PINpoint. "I wasn't sure if you had one already. But your child-ego seemed very impressed by the device."

He gives her a careful hug, so he doesn't mess up her hair or anything. "Thank you."

Now he does pull away, looking a little uncertain. "Speaking of which, I have something else for you." He reaches into his pants pocket and retrieves a small, lead-plated box. "It's a sliver of green kryptonite. In case something ever... happens." It's not exactly a romantic gift, but it is the biggest display of trust that he knows. If he thought she had the slightest chance of betraying him, he'd be handing her the key to killing him.

"I will do my best. Find a big mallet or something." She teases slightly. She is curious when he mentions that he had something for her too. And paused at her initial intention of opening the box when Clark described what was in it.
"Kryptonite? Oh Clark. I will protect it with all my abilities."
no subject
He offers her a hesitant smile. "We should eat, the food's going to get cold."
no subject
Returning to the table, she serves them from both main course meals. "And we know from last night, you handle yourself pretty good with my dark side. Luckily. There isn't really anything I could give you to carry around."
no subject
"This is really good. I'm afraid you've already seen the extent of my culinary skills."

((Must sleep now. Mondays and Wednesdays are my must-get-up-crazy-early days.))
no subject
"Oh I think I will keep you around for other reasons."

"I just wish I had parents I was close to, that I could introduce you to. We could meet my father... but he is still getting used to the whole idea that he has a daughter in the first place."
no subject
"Yeah, that might be awkward. Or scare him away from you, and I don't want to complicate things before he even gets to know you. I... don't want my father to know about you either. Yet." Jor-El has already used Clark's friends and family against him without hesitation, and with someone like April, he's terrified of what his father might do.
