the past connects to the future

Another time-traveling circle has closed for April and Clark. She was sent into the past, by the Powers that Be, to work with the past-version of Clark; while her past-version was sent into the future and worked with the present-day Clark.

Together, past and present, they defeated the Seven Sins. And were able to complete another time-traveling adventure in the lives of the couple.

Right now, April and Clark are still standing in Rome, in the ancient tomes that once contained the Seven statues representing the Seven Sins. April rested on her husband's chest, him in his Superman costume, that has now become more familiar around the world.

April was nearly 39 weeks pregnant. Any the baby could come any day now... in fact there was more movement from her child each passing day. And those lovely practices of Braxton Hicks contractions. Fortunately, the main focus of today was just completing the time-travel, and no 'fake pregnancy'.

Looking up at her husband, April sighed softly. "I had forgotten how young we both were."

He takes a seat on the couch next to her chair, glad just to be close to her. "I'm not sure if anyone is ever completely ready. But we've taken all the right steps, I think. We can't know all the perfect things to do, but we'll give it a shot, whenever our Acorn decides it's time."

"Right now, I am a little worried about if we have all the supplies we need. And trying really hard about not moving furniture around. Again." The nesting instinct is hard to explain some days. But he understands.

"I can make a list, if you want." She teases him about being super organized sometimes, but in this case he thinks it might help if she can see that they have everything they need to be ready for the baby.

[slayers_desire]

"Yes please. Otherwise I will straighten up more... and my feet hurt." She has had a few swollen feet issues in the last few weeks.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"I'll get right on that." For now, though, she needs to say no more, as he shifts from his position on the couch and begins to rub her feet and ankles.

She gives a contented sigh. He is so wonderful, knowing exactly what she needs, without psychic powers.

"We should also plan a day to introduce the baby to all our friends."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"I think we might have to do that in stages," he says with a chuckle. "Family and friends here first, then Nexus friends. We might have to wait until your world is safer to bring Acorn there... but we can invite your dad here to visit."

[slayers_desire]

"There will be no baby visiting my world until it is safer."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Absolutely not," Clark agrees. And he's glad that this world was made safe before the baby arrived, too.

[slayers_desire]

"We protected this world for our child, and we will work on mine when the time is right."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Hopefully soon... I know I'm ready to see our child face to face for the first time." And he's sure she's ready to be done with the more unpleasant side effects from the pregnancy. Although at least for now, she gets free footrubs from her adoring husband.

"There is so much about our child I am excited to find out about."

"I'd just be content with knowing which name to use," he says with a smile.

[slayers_desire]

"A few more days..."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Do your voices agree, or are you just hoping Acorn stays on schedule?" According to the AI, a Kryptonian should take the same amount of time to gestate as a human would, but just as with human babies, it involves a bit of educated guesswork. April's powers would help take a lot of the guessing out, at least for the timing.

[slayers_desire]

"My voices are indicating that tonight is not the night."

"We've waited this long... a few more days should be easy."

"I am so glad that I met you all those years ago."

"When I think of what you have given me..." April is a lose for words. She tears up a little.

He moves to kiss her, both in response to the tears, and just because he loves her. "And I would do it all again."

"No regrets?" She teased him.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

It may be a teasing question, but it does provoke some serious thought. She's made an enormous impact in his life since he met her. And some of the choices he's made still weigh on him sometimes... decisions that had no good outcome, like the night that he lost his dad. But he's made his peace with those decisions, and the past has shaped him into the person he needs to be.

"No regrets."

April senses his serious thoughts, and lets him go through them quietly. Then she kisses his forehead... knowing that he has seriously affected her life on a deep and personal level.

"No regrets here either."

He smiles and reaches up to touch her face. "You're a part of my family, April-El."

"Always and forever, Kal-El."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"You know... since I 'graduated' from Jor-El's training program, technically I'm the head of our House now. Together with you." It's a strange sort of thought, even as he's preparing to become a father, to realize that he no longer has to answer to anyone but her. The AI holds no power over his life anymore, except what he asks for, remaining as an archive and asset, but letting him take the lead.
