Future!Verse: when your children are in danger

April knew that one of her children were in danger. She didn't have to be near the bank where Dru was taken hostage to know it either. The one thing that prevented 'momma-bear' from doing anything was that her husband was on the scene, he was there to care for Dru and watch over her.

And in the end, things worked out that no shots were fired. Her eldest, Jon, was called in as the hero. And the gunmen were all arrested.

But not all was quite right in the Kent household. April sensed that something had happened with Dru's powers. Something that could affect her daughter, and the rest of the household too.

Dru hugs her twin tight. When Drake places his head on top of hers, he frowns. And looks at his brother and father in concern.

"That means a lot."

Clark just sort of smiles. "Looks like you've got things well in hand. I'll be downstairs if you need me."

[destinyborn]

"Here you go Dru. Get into bed." Drake guided his sister to her bed.

"Jon can have my bed."

[kentlings]

"I don't want to kick you out. I can sit on the floor, or get a chair," Jon offers.

[destinyborn]

"I got a science project to finish. I will take it to the loft and crash there. Go ahead."

[kentlings]

"All right. Thanks. Does that work for you?" he asks Dru. He's pretty proud of his little brother right now, and makes no attempt to hide that.

[destinyborn]

Dru nods. "Thanks Drake." She whispers softly. Glad that he understands. That he too accepts her decision.

[kentlings]

Jon makes a little bit of a show about getting comfortable on Drake's bed, more for Dru's distraction from her darker thoughts right now than out of any real need to settle in. "I'll be here as long as you need me."

[destinyborn]

Dru is scared of nightmares right now. She might stare up at the ceiling for a while.

"I still see his face."

[kentlings]

Jon lies as close to the edge of the bed as he can manage, so she feels safe with him nearby. He knows he can't tell her to try not to think of it, because it won't make it stop. "He can't hurt you anymore."

[destinyborn]

"My family will keep me safe." Dru concentrates on that.

[kentlings]

"There isn't anyone in this family who wouldn't want to help keep you safe. It's what we do. And anytime you need me, you can just call, and I'll be there."

[destinyborn]

Dru nods. And finally, closes her eyes.

She definitely won't have any nightmares tonight. Mostly because she knows she is safe. And a little tiny influence from April, who will stay up during the night to mentally check in on her daughter.
