April was excited. She just received a text from Sophie, the pregnant vampire that lived in a vampire-centric dimension. The twins were arriving, and an invitation was extended to April and Clark to attend the ceremony. To witness this moment for their own eyes...

An important thing to witness, especially as April was pregnant herself and anxious to learn about vampire births.

Hopefully Clark was available. April picks up the phone to call him at work.

Clark's not in the office right now, rather he's out following a few leads for a minor story he's working on. And so he's strolling down the sidewalks of Metropolis when he gets the call, and steps closer to the wall of the nearest building so they can talk without him being in the way or attracting attention. "Hey there, beautiful."

"I am now hoping that you have a ring tone for me." April chuckled softly.

"I just got a text from Sophie. The babies are coming!"

He laughs too. "I do have caller ID."

And he smiles when he hears that news. "Hey, that's great. I'll be home as soon as I can."

"Perfect. I will get ready and see you soon." And since this is Clark they are talking about, soon won't take long.

After he hangs up, he finds a convenient hidden spot to blur away from, putting a mental bookmark in his reporting so he will know just where he left off.

And before too long he is home, PINpoint in hand, with the coordinates ready to go.

April is dressed in a comfortable pair of pants and a gray turtleneck that hugs her curves. "Hey handsome."

He greets her with a kiss, always willing to take time out of a busy day for a side trip with his wife. And especially on such a happy occasion. "Hello to the both of you," he says, putting a hand on her belly. Even though he just saw her this morning before work, he's always happy to see her again.

She is starting to enjoy it when he does that. The touch of her belly. Greeting both her and their baby.

"I hope we didn't interrupt you."

"Nah, it wasn't anything I can't get back to later. We can't exactly ask Sophie to wait for a better time, right?"

"That hardly works for births." April chuckles. "And that is something we will need to plan... in case your child decides to come if you are busy."

"Maybe we can set up some kind of... Justice League standby system, or something." It's an issue they'll have to address later though, because they have a birth to attend.

"Good idea. But lets go... I am sure Sophie won't wait for us." April takes his hand and steps through the PINpoint.

Tonight, they are taken to a mansion-style home on the hill overlooking the city. They are just inside, where Spike is waiting in the lobby.

Clark's a little surprised to be in such fancy settings, having expected something a lot more humble. If not a hospital, then maybe a private birthing room or something. "Wow."

Spike stands. "They hold all the ceremonies for pregnant women here."

It offers lavish settings, comforts that any pregnant woman could ask for, and there is also a couple of large men around too.

"Fancy." April whistled.

"What kind of ceremony is this, exactly?" Clark asks. He's never heard of anything like this, although he knows the vampires here are deeply devoted to their community and celebrating together.

[slayers_desire]

"Nothing too out of the ordinary. No sacrifices or anything like that." Spike chuckled. Not realizing how important that can be to these two.

"The mother is upstairs, with her requested guests. Where you too go alone. Some of the others are preparing blood. Some of the others are preparing a meal of celebration. Some of the others are preparing to ... secure the mother if necessary."

"Secure her?" April whispers.

"In case her hunger gets too strong."

It's a harsh fact of how vampire births work here, and Clark has nothing but compassion for Sophie. Hoping that both she and her babies survive through this. "Is there anything we can do to help? Or are we supposed to just watch?"

"You could easily secure her, better than any of these guards. But you better just watch for now." Spike replied.

April took his hand, a little nervous.

Clark nods, ready to do anything to help that he can, and stay out of the way when he can't. And he squeezes April's hand a little. "She'll be okay." He doesn't want to think about what this will do to April if she isn't.

"I know she will be." April whispers. Her voices tell her that this event will be important, but not dramatic.

"I am just still... nervous..."

"That's pretty natural. Even though it's not you giving birth just yet..."

Spike takes them upstairs, where he will leave them in the care of Mykal before he goes downstairs.

Mykal opens the door to the birthing room, where Sophie currently is situated. "Welcome to our special day."

April can feel... so much when she walks in that room. It is almost overwhelming for a moment.

Clark isn't sure where to look, whether it would come across as staring or make her uncomfortable or what, so for the time being he addresses Mykal. "How's she doing?" he asks, looking over at Sophie for a few moments, and holding tight to April's hand.

April can feel Clark's hesitation. Her eyes are red right now... and she senses that she needs to be near Sophie. So she squeezes his hand... then lets go of him to go to her side.

"It has been so long since any of us had twins. It has been a difficult couple of hours so far," Mykal replies.

Clark lets her go, leaving the two mothers to have time alone while the husbands stand back and wait. The last thing Clark wants is to get in the way, or distract Sophie from the difficult process of labor. "She's strong... I hope that's enough," he says quietly.
