April was still trying to deal with the news she received on Christmas day, that the 'Phantom' was falling in love with her and that her Clark was still missing. Life seemed so hard to live following that... and for a week she just had to deal with her inner turmoils and thoughts. There was few she could turn to for comfort, as having 'Clark-Phantom' around was better than no Clark.

New Year's Day passed with no celebration for her. And It was only by some sort of twisted luck that all of this happened around Christmas holidays. So April could deal with her emotions without having to worry about school.

A full week went by before April finally PINpointed to the farm, where 'Clark-Phantom' was staying. Part of it was to check on the farm itself, to make sure that he was caring for the animals and wasn't raising suspicions with Raya. The other part was to check on the Phantom, who was developing touches of humanity himself. Was trying to find himself.

As bad as things sucked right now for her, April still wanted to help. She couldn't feel for The Phantom the way he claimed he felt for her. But he needed one person who he could be honest around, and right now she was it.

"That's for sure," he agrees.

He can't stay. Even if there is a way to cure him, we can't trust him. And no one will believe I have a twin brother.

I know that. Its just so difficult, like there is no easy answer. I feel like we are doing the right thing, but that bad reactions still happen

"I am just tired." This one needs to be vocalized.

I know. Destroying him doesn't feel right. If he really is different, then he deserves to exist, so long as he doesn't try to hurt anyone. But he's my responsibility.

He hugs her against his side, wanting to be her support after this long trial. One that has no end in sight. "I'm sorry. I know this hasn't been anywhere close to easy on you."

He is my responsibility too After all, April was the one who had encouraged Kal-El to take a chance on allowing the Phantom redemption.

She leans on him, glad for his support right now. "It has been a long month. So much bad. So much trials. I just want something good to happen."

We'll share responsibility, then. He feels he owns the greater portion of it, having released the Zoners in the first place and having the command from Jor-El to take care of it, but he'll allow her that part of it for herself. Without her vouching for the phantom, this likely would've turned violent. Fast.

"We just have to be patient," he says, hoping that it's true.

((Bed time))

Right now he is the strongest good in her life, and she takes his hand in hers. They have each other. Things are a little weird for her... but April trusts that will clear up on time.

"How are things going Al?"

The older Kryptonian has been examining the phantom closely, but not getting too close. Not trusting him to behave. "Not well. I'm not sure I fully understand the source of the problem just yet. It could take years to understand, never mind correct it."

The phantom is upset by that answer. "I don't want to wait years!" He reaches out as if to grab at Al's arm, but stops before he touches him, remembering their deal. And underneath the mechanic jumpsuit's sleeve, something starts glowing bright blue at the proximity of his hand, and the phantom involuntarily gasps at the sensation of power.

Al steps back quickly, moving his wrist as far away from the phantom as he can. "Interesting. He reacts to our minerals as well?"

"Green Kryptonite can heal him, but I am not sure what Blue Kryptonite would do." April is worried. She sensed the power that the Phantom felt. Power can be a difficult thing to resist.

Her thought is right, and the phantom is using all his willpower not to leap up and grab at the hidden blue kryptonite before Al's human reflexes could stop him. He wants it. Badly. And the only reason he is resisting the urge is that he still wants to fix himself.

"Everything affects us oppositely," Kal-El says, an idea forming. It's something he hadn't even bothered to think about before. "You said you came here to study what our minerals do under the yellow sun. Have you ever run into red kryptonite?"

"Yes," Al says with a small shudder. "It takes away morals, turns good honest Kryptonians into sadistic monsters. It brings out the worst in us. Using it on him would be a great risk if you are wrong."

"Its going to be okay. Just hold on." April softly states, touching the Phantom to give him focus again.

"I could ask my voices first, see if red Kryptonite is the best thing to use."

"I don't want to be controlled, or drugged," the phantom growls.

"Not as a permanent solution, no," Kal-El agrees, crossing his arms over his chest. "But it could give us time to figure something out without risking you turning on us." He looks over at April. "If it is, do you have any in your collection?" He hasn't been able to look at her stash of kryptonite since the summer he was human, but he knows she has more than one color stored away.

"I think so." And focuing on the red Kryptonite in her collection, April closes her eyes and uses the touch to the Phantom to summon her voices. Asking them if using red Kryptonite would help the Phantom or make things worse.

Fortunately, this time, her boyfriend's deduction is correct. While red kryptonite brings out the worst in a Kryptonian and reduces them to a violent, unreasonable person, everything the phantom feels is the opposite. It would take away those violent impulses, that lack of self-control, for as long as the stone is touching him.

((Did a quick check through my thread archives, and April should still have the red k necklace that Alicia gave to Clark.))

"The stone would take away violent impulses. Giving you more control, Clark. But it is your choice. Just like Al decides to wear Blue to give himself a life, it would be your decision now too."

((I checked my threads too, and found the same thing. LOL))

The phantom is still halfway fixated on the blue kryptonite. He wants that power. Craves it, as much as her boyfriend sometimes feels the need for red kryptonite when it's near. But he's listening. "If I do, what will happen to me?" he challenges them.

"We can start working on changing your life, so that in the end you have a life." She knows that it is impossible to have 'two Clarks' around Smallville. And doesn't have answers that would make anyone happy.

"If you don't, you can't stick around anyway," Kal-El points out. Perhaps it's harsh, but it's the truth. "We'll find somewhere for you to go. We won't throw you out in the cold. And we'll keep working to try to fix you. If you use red kryptonite, we'll know that we can trust you not to put us, or yourself, at risk."

His words strike a chord with the phantom, who was abandoned by his creators for being imperfect. Thrown out in the cold, into the Phantom Zone, to live for the rest of his unnatural life. "Let me think about it."

((Man, I thought of this because I thought we needed more time to plot and come up with a way for him to die, but this just might work out, lol. Red!phantom will likely be a lot more open to finding another world to live on or something, and would respect April's choice. And it still leaves it open for possibly having him die to protect her at some point if we still want to do that.))

"We won't abandon or forget about you Clark." April adds. She knows it is is an imperfect solution, but it is the only one they have.

((Good thinking. We need to come up with something. April can't handle having two Clarks in love with her, the poor girls feels like she is betraying her Clark by being friendly with the Phantom.

Also have to disappear for an hour))

If ever he was going to trust someone, it would be now. And he sincerely hopes he's not making a mistake. "Fine. I'll try it."

((Yeah. We could get him out of the way for now and bring him back for future plotting or something, or try to wrangle him into dying this time around, although I'm really blanking on ideas for that. Which is why I tried to buy more time this way lol.))

"Kal-El you better step back, just in case." April uses her PINpoint to bring the red kryptonite to her. Both Kal-El and the Phantom should recognize it as the necklace that Alicia had used once.

Carefully April reaches up and places the necklace around the Phantom's neck.

((my only idea would involve when April faces Aurora/ Atropos. Since the last witch will try to kill her))

She doesn't have to ask him twice. He's had his fair share with red kryptonite and never wants to experience it again. And he moves to the other side of the garage, staying wary of the phantom's actions. Al comes with him. Blue kryptonite negates other kryptonite's effects on them, but he doesn't want to take any chances.

The phantom really doesn't want to let her put the necklace around his neck, but he lets her. And the stones flare red when they touch him, the glow traveling up to his eyes. Where the stone normally darkens a Kryptonian's aura with malevolent blood red, it almost seems to lighten his own. Not making him docile, exactly, but calmer. Freed of his violent impulses, his desire for causing pain. He doesn't say anything, just staring at her with wide eyes.

"How do you feel?" April asks softly.

((I believe it was around the time of Traveler. So four episodes from this one. Of course I can always have her attack earlier))

"Different." He's not sure how to phrase it, how to articulate how he feels. "Weird. I'm sorry."

((Hmm. I am flexible. If you think that would be best, I am open to it. I would usually think that Bizarro would be resistant to magic since Kryptonians are vulnerable to it, but we can explain it by saying that not everything is opposite. Or maybe red kryptonite makes him more vulnerable or something.))

"Its okay." April feels weird herself. She doesn't know what they are going to do with the Phantom right now.

((April is going to be all weird until something happens to the Phantom, unfortunately. Instead of using magic, maybe Aurora could attempt to do something to April that would effect Bizarro. They are both vulnerable to the sun... maybe we could use that.))

"I know I'm not Clark." He looks at Al. "What was it you called me? Bizarro?"

"That was your project name," the older man says, still not getting close to him.

((That's a great idea. What better way to hurt a vampire than with really intense sunlight? And Aurora's better at magic than April is so she would be able to weaponize it better. And that could definitely be fatal to the phantom if he was subjected to it for long enough.))
