Rome adventures: open to Clark and Xander

April felt blessed in the fact that she was getting closer to Clark's family in Smallville. Especially since every time she visited with Martha and Jonathan, she could sense their approval and that they were glad she made Clark happy. It was so important to her to share more of her world with Clark in return, and introduce him to someone from the Buffyverse.

So after deciding on Xander, April first sat down with the older man and explained about her visits to the Nexus. And how she had made several friends there. And how she started dating someone from another universe. And that she would like to introduce her boyfriend to Xander.

With those basics covered, April was ready to contact Clark and invite him back to Rome. This time to meet someone from her world. And waiting for Clark to arrive, April felt a couple of butterflies in her stomach. She just hoped that Xander and Clark would get along alright.

Xander is indeed waiting inside. Since he hadn't really told April exactly when her boyfriend would be arriving, they would find him spouting off a long tirade of colorful language after dying in whatever video game it was that he was immersed in. When he heard the door open and close, he put down his controller and called over the back of the couch. "Helloooo?"

"Awww did the mean ol' Vide Game monster kill you again?" April greeted Xander in a friendly manner. Giving him a hug from over the back of the couch.

"Xander, this is Clark Kent. Clark, this is Xander Harris."

Clark hangs back just a step, out of politeness rather than social awkwardness. Although there is a little of that, as he braces himself for any fanboyishness and steps forward to offer his hand. "Hi. Nice to meet you."

Xander stands up and gives April a for real, head on hug instead of the over the couch one. "Makes no sense, I'm so good at fighting monsters in real life but video game monsters are all Grrrr Arrgghh."

Xander shakes the lad's, hand with a smile. "Very funny, April. Make fun of the nerd. If you're gonna go through my comics and introduce your boyfriend as a superhero, at least pick a fake name that's not one of the big ones." He totally thinks she's playing a joke, because Clark Kent isn't a real person. Not really.

"I guess there is no replacement for having Xander in real life. And we better never get stuck in a video game."

April chuckles. "Seriously Xander, this is Clark Kent. I met him in the interdimensional Nexus."

"And he does enjoy showing off his powers, if you don't believe me." This is a subtle hint for Clark to do what he does best.

Well, Clark hadn't been expecting to have to prove it. Usually in the Nexus, Clark Kents are a dime a dozen, so people believe him right off.

He thinks for a moment, then zips off at superspeed, blowing up a huge gust of wind in his wake. He's back about a second later with an unlit candle, and once the air settles, he stares at the wick, his eyes flaring gold, and it bursts into flame. "I can juggle the furniture if you want, but the ceiling is a little low."

Xander, probably unexpectedly, doesn't geek out. A simple, "Whoa.. cool." , would have to suffice. Mostly because he thinks it would be really freakin' rude to do so although it admittedly is pretty damned cool to meet one of the superheroes he likes.

"Nice to meet you Supes.. err.. Clark." he grins.

April takes Clark hand, showing her appreciation for 'proving' himself. She can imagine how difficult it can be for him.

"Clark and I have been dating for nearly three months."

"Clark, please," he says, with a slight look of distaste at the name "Supes." The only person who calls him that is Marco, because he knows it annoys him.

He blows out the candle - normally, since he doesn't have superbreath yet - and sets it down before holding hands with April. "Three months in Nexus time," he amends with a slight smile. "My universe seems to run just a little faster."

"Faster than Nexus time or faster than our time here? Man, that must be confusing. One of you ever late for dates? Anya hates when I'm late, maybe if I could use a nexusthingy excuse and if she gets all complainy I can be like... "But... ask April. It happens!"

"Our time in this dimension is pretty close to Nexus time. It was just Halloween there. However, it is March in Clark's world. Almost time for prom. Which he has invited me too."

"We seem to make it work. I have visited his world a couple times, and he has been here a couple of times. I met his adoptive parents. And now he gets to meet you."

"I've given up trying to understand Nexus time," Clark admits. "When I'm in the Nexus, or here, time doesn't move at all at home. But when I'm home, I can be there for three months and only a week will have passed elsewhere. I haven't figured out a pattern yet, but it does seem to work so far."

"She gets to meet your parents and you get to meet me. That hardly seems fair." Xander laughs. "I'm just random nerd guy slash handyman that keeps an eye on the kid." He nudges April playfully. "Definitely not parent material. Besides, she's too cute to be my kid." She's too cute to be Spike and Dru's for that matter, at least in Xander's opinion but not to mention he's not old enough to be her father.

"The fact time freezes when Clark leaves did make things interesting, in explaining to some people how we were dating when it didn't seem that Clark had ever left to go on dates. But now I have visited, those questions have died down."

April laughs, and pokes Xander in the side. "I cheat by taking the easy way out. Clark might be my man of steel, but do you think Spike would be so accomodating. He nearly beat Rain up just because the male Slayer is my friend."

"Or maybe that was still a guy thing I will never understand."

"She hasn't met just my parents," Clark says, ruffling her hair. "I got to show her off around town a few times. And if I have things my way, she'll never meet my 'real' father. Speaking of which," he adds to her, "you were right about the key."

"Spike tried to beat up Rain? Wow, sucks I missed that. Did Rain at least get a couple good licks in?" He clears his throat. "Uh.. not that I'd want to see anyone beat the crap out of Spike...." he looks innocently at the ceiling in that adorable way he does when trying not to get in trouble.

"Wait.. real father? I thought Jor-El died when Krypton went Bloooey... or are my comics all lies?"

When he talks about a Key, it makes Xander think of Dawnie. It had been awhile since he'd seen her.

"It happened right after I was attacked by Drusilla. I was too... disorienteed to really see the fight. I just remember waking up screaming because of the visions it had given me. Especially since it was a Slayer against Vampire... and then almost right after that Buffy had been taken..."

"Well Clark is instructed by Jor-El through an artifical intelligence that was created with his Space Ship. And now, from some caves..." April looks at Clark for clarification there. "And from my best guesses the key would help Clark talk to that representation of his birth dad."

"But since the AI version of Jor-El has done some... troubling things to his friends and family before. He and I thought it was best it not learn about me."

"The AI moved into the caves after I destroyed the ship," he explains. "They key activated the ship, and it activates the cave wall, too. I'd lost it for a while, and just got it back." Just as April's vision foretold. Though he defied his parents and went down into the caves alone, without permission.

"Jor-El is... he's not a nice guy. Not even to me. But ignoring his warnings has always resulted in punishment, so I don't have much choice."

"My dad tried to sell me to some Armenian's once. You don't have to sell me on the not so great pa, angle." Xander smirked.

"I think we would all agree that our relationships with our biological fathers are not the best." April bite her lower lip. She was trying with Spike, really. But it still felt awkward.

"The nice thing about having Clark here a couple of times, is that he has been able to learn a lot about the demons and forces of darkness in our world. Another person to fight those forces, when needed." And she had needed him.

Clark's father brainwashed him into trying to take over the world, but they aren't playing Whose Father Is Worse so he doesn't mention it.

"I'm not so great with a sword, but I can punch things pretty hard," he deadpans, with a straight face. Clark Kent, master of understatement. "If you guys ever need someone fairly indestructible to give you a hand, feel free to call me up." He squeezes April's hand slightly, remembering all that he's done for her already in that department. And he would do it again in a heartbeat.

"Yeah great, one more super awesome member of the team to show how useless Xander is." He chuckles but he half means it. The more slayers and supers and witches and whatzits that show up, the more he remembers that he's just the mortal baseline human guy that doesn't have any special powers except for the amazing abilities of window repair and witty repartee.

"I keep telling you that you have a great destiny, Xander. Don't go doubting yourself just because you are no Slayer. You tell me not to doubt myself... why not set a good example?"

"Just because a person doesn't have special abilities doesn't make them useless." Clark was only partly aware that Xander was a run-of-the-mill human, but so are his parents and all of his friends, and that's never stopped them from being useful. Or going up against meteor freaks. "My parents are completely normal, and some of the things they've done needed more bravery than I've got." Though he's slowly growing into it. But that's not the point.

"Yeah, I know April. You're probably right. Hard to not feel a bit.. y'know, when you're standing in front of Clark Kent though." he laughs.

"More bravery than you?" He cocks a brow, holding in a laugh. "Than you... wow. Just you wait." He has a smug grin in his knowledge of Superman adventures.
