Rome adventures: open to Clark and Xander

April felt blessed in the fact that she was getting closer to Clark's family in Smallville. Especially since every time she visited with Martha and Jonathan, she could sense their approval and that they were glad she made Clark happy. It was so important to her to share more of her world with Clark in return, and introduce him to someone from the Buffyverse.

So after deciding on Xander, April first sat down with the older man and explained about her visits to the Nexus. And how she had made several friends there. And how she started dating someone from another universe. And that she would like to introduce her boyfriend to Xander.

With those basics covered, April was ready to contact Clark and invite him back to Rome. This time to meet someone from her world. And waiting for Clark to arrive, April felt a couple of butterflies in her stomach. She just hoped that Xander and Clark would get along alright.

"Hmmm... well I'm not sure how much you SHOULD know about other you-niverses. I have a book you might want to read, Superman : The Ultimate Guide, but you can borrow it at your own risk."

Xander rolls his eyes.

"Oookay lovebirds. I may be older, but my hearing works just fine. If you two wanna go be... frisky or.. whatever, don't let me stop you but I don't wanna hear about it." Xander grins.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mostly the point about Lana is... in the comics she is a redhead. And comic-you had more brothery feelings about her, trusting her with his secret. I do agree with Xander on his point. We will lend you books if you want. But it would be the same as someone offering us movie copies or comic books on our universe. A tempting situation."

Giving Xander a look, April countered. "Like you and Anya are any better. She talks about sex like its... normal." That was a weird ending, but her point was made.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
In Clark's universe, Lana is Chinese, so picturing her as a redhead is absolutely bizarre. And he's had a crush on her since he was seven, so seeing her as a sister is even more weird. "I've met other versions of me and we've compared and contrasted some weird stuff, but... Lana being a redhead?" He shakes his head. "I haven't even picked up a comic book yet. I think an encyclopedia about myself would just be too much." Add to that his discomfort with being identified as a superhero in the first place, and you get a wonderful recipe for awkward. Even moreso than asking his sixty-five-year-old counterpart if he can die.

He looks a little more embarrassed as April says the s-word. While he's getting less shy about it with her, he's not so great about talking about it front of people he's barely met. Or anyone else in general, really. Though his parents got a pass on that when his heat vision first started up, and that was awkward but necessary.

[identity profile] heartofscoobies.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Heeey! It IS normal. What makes you think our sex life isn't... normal?" Well.. Anya was a demon so sometimes it wasn't exactly vanilla, but he enjoyed it and so did she, so what did it matter, really?

"And... now I'm talking about sex in front of Superman and that's just freaking me out."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sensing Clarks discomfort and Xander's comment, April just waved the topic away. Literally she made a little gesture with her hand.

"Then how about either of you bring up a question for the other. I can't be the only one thinking of brilliant conversation starters."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Clark jumps at the opportunity to change the subject to something. Anything else. "So, uh... have you done a lot of traveling? Since, you know, we're in Rome and all."

[identity profile] heartofscoobies.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not a lot, really. Been a few places around the states but not for any long periods of time. Rome was a big change and to be honest, I still kind of hate it here, but home is now a giant sinkhole so I won't be going back there."

What do you ask the man of steel?

"Do you find any of your powers are as much a curse as a blessing? Like, any that are hard to control? When you help people are you ever scared that adrenaline is going to make you maybe squeeze a little too tight or forget that normal people are squishier than you are?"

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Since neither of the questions are ones that April is required to answer, she will excuse herself to the kitchen. Coming back after a couple of moments with a fruit tray, bowl of chips, dip and three drinks all balanced on a tray.

She will set the refreshments on the coffee table, so they don't have to move their conversation from the living room area. It will interesting to see if Clark includes his troubles with heat vision in his answer or not.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Xander has no idea how much of a loaded question he just asked. "All the time," Clark says. "For my entire life. I once shattered another football player's collarbone because I barely bumped into him. I've broken loads of furniture. My superhearing first started when I was completely blind, and it did it at random, so I was overwhelmed with just plain noise. And when my heat vision started, I set fires everywhere." And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

[identity profile] heartofscoobies.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Xander grabs a couple chips and puts them in his mouth like a duck beak and pecks plaufully at April's hair before munching them down, then he turns back to Clark.

"So it was like "Superpuberty" for you or something? Wow. In the old-school comics, that version of you had powers from the time he was a baby. There were even Superbaby and Superboy comics. Sounds like you got the rough end of the deal. Has your mom made you the suit yet?"

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
April laughs at Xander's attempt to peck at her hair with his chip-lips. She gives him a playful tickle in response.

"He doesn't believe me when I told him that he looks good in tights."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Clark goes for the fruit tray, picking out a few apple slices. Not as fresh as the stuff he gets on the farm, when they're in season, but still enjoyable. He tries not to wince too hard at the Superbaby thing. "I've been strong ever since Mom and Dad found me, and my speed kicked in when I was seven, but everything else is more recent. And apparently I'm going to be getting superbreath at some point - which is ridiculous, by the way - and I'm still working on flying."

He nudges April at her comment. "That's because I don't. And no, I do all my supersaves in my street clothes. Preferably at speed so no one sees."

[identity profile] heartofscoobies.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dude, not for nothing, but she's right. I'm totally one hundred percent straight as an arrow and I can honestly tell you that tights are your thing." Xander nods. He knows what he's talking about.

"Does magic affect you? It's one of your weaknesses in the comics. You don't have many, but that's one of em."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"See!" April sticks out her tongue. "And I would offer wearing the outfit too if it made you feel better. But with the blond hair, I would just be stealing Supergirl's glory. And she has enough problems with that."

She will allow Clark the chance to defend himself, and answer the magic question.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"And wearing my underwear on the outside is my thing too?" He looks very skeptical. And while his older self totally rocks the look, Clark gets the feeling he would feel stupid wearing it.

"Magic most definitely affects me. I ran into some back home and ended up having to take on three of my friends, who were possessed by medieval French witches, after they stripped me of my powers." And he was armed only with a shotgun. Thank God he didn't need it. "And April and I tested it out with this universe's brand of magic too. Works like a charm." If you'll pardon the horrible, horrible pun.

[identity profile] heartofscoobies.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a classic look. The underwear on the outside I mean. I couldn't rock the look, but hey, Batman does it and he's a badass."

Xander groans. "Ooooh. I see superpuns don't come with the power package."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Despite the famous costume, the one vision I had of this Clark in a hero guise had no tights. No underwear on the outside. Just a trench-coat and of course the family chest on his outfit." April shrugs. It doesn't matter to her if Clark goes for the red-and-blue or not. To her he would be a hero no matter what.

And if they can break the Lois+Clark=Love issue, maybe this Clark is not meant to wear the blue-and-red Superman outfit.

"Using magic empowered weapons is the only way I can fight fair against this guy. He and I have sparred once or twice. And I have been helping him with the flying issue."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've been told I need to work on my sense of humor. Namely, getting one. That's a work in progress too." Of course, it was Marco who told him that. And that kid jokes about everything.

"I kind of half-fly right now. Well, kind of... hover. I'd do great as a glider but powered flight is still a no-go. Speaking of which," he adds, a little hesitantly, "I never asked you more about that vision of me and the missile." It wasn't really a good time when she'd had it.

[identity profile] heartofscoobies.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oooh, so if I stood on your back and pushed with my feet, we could maybe act out one of my Back to the Future Hoverboard fantasies?" Xander joked. When he brought up a vision, Xander figured it was time to excuse himself. "Sounds like serious talk." he gave April a hug. "It was nice meeting you Clark, come around anytime and if you get the urge to know more about other you's based on my comic knowledge, ask away."

((I must be off to bed, so I shall free you two up :) ))

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Clark actually knows Marty McFly. I think we could get you an actual hoverboard." April laughed. Not pointing out that only she was allowed to have fantasies about her boyfriend.

Hugging Xander back, she whispered, "Thank you." And gave him a friendly ruffle of his hair before he escaped from the living room.

Turning to face Clark, April recalled her vision. "It wasn't much. Just you perched on a missle that was heading out of the atmosphere, into space. And that it would happen soon. Was... was that why you were upset earlier?"

((ooc: goodnight Xander-mun. Thanks for your involvement))

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Marty and Doc," Clark adds. "Seriously, I can get you a real one without resorting to bodysurfing." Yeah, his sense of humor needs a lot of work.

"It was good to meet you," he says politely. Xander may not be one of her relatives, but he is one of her friends, and someone important enough to her that she wanted them to meet. And just for the sake of friendliness instead of preparing for future events.

He pauses for a moment at her question. "Uh, no. I was just wondering... you know, if you knew when. Or where. Or why." That sort of thing tends to make him a little nervous, especially since he isn't sure if it's a round-trip journey. "I was on the outside?"

((OOC: Seconding the thanks! Was nice threading with you! :D))

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"It flashed so fast, I didn't get a good gist of things. I could try to see when, or where, or why." April offered.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've been thinking about it for weeks," he admits. "If you're comfortable with it..."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Taking his hands, April closes her eyes and concentrates. She focuses her gifts on telling her more about the vision with the rocket. And because of his previous discomfort will press further to attempt to tell him anything that might ease him about the unspoken situation.

The dinner trays rocks slightly. And lifts into the air slightly.

((ooc: mun determines what she sees, as usual))

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Her guess that the two scenarios are linked is partially right. Clark's failure to acquire the second Stone will lead to the temporary loss of his powers by Jor-El, leading in turn to not being able to stop the missile launch in time.

She will see Clark, in orbit with the planet far below him like an enormous jewel, with him ripping into a side panel of the missile. And Kansas, far below in the grips of a mild summer heat wave, right in the strike zone where the missile is descending. And there is a feeling of dread, not during the crisis, but just before it where something terrible is going to happen. A flash of an icy fortress, with enormous crystals like in the hologram of Krypton.
