Slayer 101: Introduction to the Training Centre

After heading from her Dark City home, April took Rain to a quiet place where they could teleport to the Nexus warehouse that she had previously purchased. It had not taken much, for her, after all... because of the fact that April had been gone for 800 years. She had put a little away into this place, when she could. And now it was a complete training center. One that might surprise Rain with how complete it was.

The larger training area included all the required weapons that Rain would require. It was also established an multi-Nexus technology, that would adapt the grounds of the training area as required. If he wanted rooftops - he would get rooftops. If he wanted a cemetery - he would get a cemetery. If he wanted a Mountain top... well you get the idea.

Next to the training center was the library. Here Harley had teleported all of Angel's and Spike's lore books. The ones that they had taken from Wolfram and Hart. Books on every type of Demon, Vampire, or Creature of the Night that Rain would have to learn about. And regular books, that seemed all too ordinary, like that one on History or Latin, but were just as important for Rain to learn as the others were.

There was also a storage area, that contained a couple of mystical required items. Or things like garlic. It was connected to the kitchen area, and of course a nice large walk-in freezer unit for all the food that Rain might ever need. (And a couple of blood supplies for April).

North of the kitchen was the bedrooms. Two. One for both of them. (Just in case they worked to sharing a bed). Both bedrooms had their own private walk-in closet and bathroom. Both had dressers, four-post beds and alarm clocks. Both were also sound proof. There was of course an adjoining door between the two bedrooms.

From Rain's room, which had been painted in dark blues, was a door that lead to a music booth. Where he could place his guitars, play songs, and just be the musician that he was so often denied. Sitting in the middle of a room was a very special guitar. For it was both a guitar and a weapon. A press of one button, and stakes would pop out of the neck. Another button would create a laser-light surround the 'axe' blade, creating a very real and dangerous weapon capable of cutting off a creatures head. There was a third button, that would light the whole thing on fire, without causing damage to the musical instrument.

Of course, April would let Rain explore, while setting up a training session for Rain to start with. Expecting a lot of reaction... hopefully.

"You want fodder?" Rain growls. "I'll give you all the fodder you can handle." He grabs his slayerscythe and throws it end over end at the demon to try to distract it. He hosed the flames by the window and hooked the little girls arms around his neck, draping her body along his back. He snatched up the toddler and ran to the window, throwing himself out and catching the gutter with his free hand. He starts to shimmy down with his hand and feet, toddler cradled against his chest.

His slayerscythe is able to catch a large piece of flesh of the Demon, and Rain can hear it howl in pain. The fact he extinguished the flames at the window gave him the time he needed to start to shimmy down.

But it did not take long for the demon to appear at the window, and start to climb after him. It dug its fire claws in the building, not needing to hanging on to anything.

"Shit." Rain muttered under his breath. He left his weapon in there. It bought him time, but...

He grips his heels on the gutter and relaxes his grip on the gutter, sliding down it almost like a fire pole. He lets go and drops the last ten feet. He ducks his head out of the girls arms and hands her the toddler. "Mommy's right around that corner at the front. You go. Find mommy okay?"

The girl, still shaking, nods at him. She holds tightly to the infant and runs towards the street, where she will find her mother. Rain will hear the joyous and relieved reunion.

But he has bigger fish to deal with. The fire demon springs off the building to tackle him.

Rain feels his flesh begin to blister and burn and he yells out in agony as he falls to the ground. As he goes down, he brings his feet up. He can smell the rubber soles of his sneakers start to melt as they catch the demon in the stomach. He keeps rolling to try and toss the demon over and off of his burning body. This simulation was entirely too real.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
April does have some of the Nexus-like safeties on, so there is no way Rain can be seriously hurt. But the simulation of pain and of the blistering flesh might be enough for him to take these training sessions seriously. Because in real life -- there would be no safety zone.

And where she is watching, April bites her lip nervously.

It might be hard to roll the Demon off him, it is stronger than Rain at the moment.

Rain didn't realize that the pain and blisters would disappear when this was done. To all his senses, it was real. High tech indeed. Rain struggled, kicking again and reached for the thing he pocketed. He reached up and smashed a bottle of holy water against the demon's face, shattering it.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The demon cried out in pain, the water working double damage. First, because holy part is bad for the Demon, and the water part for the Fire. It started to evaporate, but Rain might have to do a little more to ensure a proper slaying.

[identity profile] chimera-slayer.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Rain moved his hands to the demon and PUSHED with all his might, burn or not, he couldn't slay it with it on top of him. If he succeeds in getting it off, his first course of action would be to scan the area for ANYTHING he could use as a weapon.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
With the Demon weakened, Rain succeeds to push it off. As luck would have it, there is another fire extinguisher hanging off the wall. Something he could use to ensure this demon is sent back to where it came from.

[identity profile] chimera-slayer.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Rain grabbed the fire extinguisher and.....

Started BEATING the hell out of the demon with it before finally turning the hose on it.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It got the job done. And soon the Demon was nothing more than a pile of ash. Fireworkers showed up, to save the house... and slowly the simulation ended.

As did the sensation of having burned skin. Or bruises.

April stood there with a stop watch. "Mmmm Nine minutes and ten seconds. But I am debating if I should add time for the lost weapon...." She tried valiantly to hide the concern from her eyes. Rain could be upset she had not told him about the simulation abilities to make him feel every hit and burn.

[identity profile] chimera-slayer.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Rain wasn't upset. Rain was tired. He sunk to his knees for a moment, wiping the sweat from his brow. The heat had been real and it had made him work up a bigger sweat than that much activity usually would.

"I was sloppy." he panted.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. You were." The Watcher replied. She laid his weapon in front of him. "I will expect you do better, next time."

[identity profile] chimera-slayer.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sorry I disappointed you ma'am." he said before laying on the floor. The floor was cool, his body was hot. It only made sense. It's not like he had really done anything like that before and he certainly had never had guidance.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Next time. Ask about hazards to yourself. You might have had an opportunity to have a balm applied to your body to protect you from the flames."

Leaning down to touch his back, April continued. "And instead of throwing your weapon away, you could have used the extinguisher on the Fire Demon. Keeping your weapon. You were told it would be your best advantage to you."

[identity profile] chimera-slayer.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't have had a balm in the field, wouldn't have been a realistic scenario right?"

He groaned. "I knooow. But I didn't think it would work and I was just in a hurry to get the kids out of there."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because... if we had heard about the fire on the police scanner that is in this training centre, you would have had the time to grab the appropriate balm."

"You were just in a hurry the whole time."

[identity profile] chimera-slayer.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"And I still barely made it. In the real world, would I have had to race the clock?" He bit his tongue. "No.. you're the Watcher, I'm the student. You know best. I'm sorry." He rolled over on his back, took a nice deep gulp of air and sat up.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well lets see... the house was on fire. Those people would have died from the heat, or the smoke inhalation." April stated simply. So yes, there would have been a clock.

She bit her lips when he apologized a moment later. "I had been worried about you the whole time."
