The Amazons had defended Themyscira from Lex Luthor, and his attempt to claim their secrets. April had fought alongside the Amazons, and seen for herself that their strength and determination would keep Lex from trying again in the future. It also helped that April helped placed the fear of the Amazons into the minds of the soldiers.

With the island safe, April returned home. She felt proud of have fought with the Amazons. They all treated her like a Warrior. A sister.

Her mind was on her unborn child, the knowledge that she gained about this new life inside of her. She couldn't wait to tell Clark.

"That is why I shouldn't be worried..." Spike nods to Martha's statement. He is very confident that his daughter could handle a newborn with voices.

April herself had never had that thought cross her mind until now. They are so careful with Jonathan, since he inherited super strength.

"Luckily, most of my powers didn't activate until I was a teenager. So even if our daughter does inherit the voices... we will have time to train her."

Martha smiles. "We were fortunate that Clark was the same way. Maybe there's something that keeps some people from developing their abilities until they're mature enough to control them."

Clark thinks about Jonathan lifting up the couch, and the few pieces of furniture he's accidentally broken since his superstrength started. "Yeah, I hope that's the case."

April feels a little panicked picturing Jonathan picking up furniture, and their future daughter lifting objects with her mind.

"Me too."

Clark gives her hand another squeeze of reassurance. If that happens, we'll deal with it as it comes.

"I didn't mean to worry you pet." Spike noticed the alarmed look on his daughter's face.

April returns the squeeze from Clark, and takes a breath. "It is okay dad. We will handle anything that comes to us."

"I'm sure you both will handle it just fine," Martha says reassuringly. "And you know I'm always available if you need help." Her duties as a Senator keep her pretty busy, but she's not the only one who places family as a higher priority when there's a crisis at home.

"Thanks, Mom." Clark has always valued his mom's advice, even though she raised him without any knowledge of what powers he would develop or how to help him control them.

"And I will be here if you need help too." Spike notes. April feels relieved by that... Spike had handled Dru's voices for centuries.

"Thanks. It means so much that you are both here, supporting us."

"That's what family is for," Martha says with a smile. It does not matter to her that there are no blood ties between them, and it never has.

"And Jonathan is pretty excited about being a big brother." April smiles over at her son.

"Big brudder!" Jonathan agrees.

"Can't say I blame him," Clark chuckles.

Spike grins at Jonathan's enthusiasm. Reaching over to gently tickle the little boy.

"Well yes, we are both excited too." April agrees, taking Clark's hand in hers.

Jonathan giggles, enjoying the attention.

"So how did you find out you were having a girl?" Martha asks. "Last time you waited to find out the old-fashioned way."

"We were waiting this time too."

"But recently I was in Themyscira, the Amazon island, and their Queen had told me that our child was a daughter."

"How did she know?"

"Apparently they have Oracles," Clark says.

"She didn't mean to ruin the surprise. She just was concerned about the welfare of our child."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"It would be nice to keep it a surprise, but the important thing is that the baby's healthy," Clark says with a smile. That's the most important part to him, and he would be just as happy if they were having another son. Any child is a blessing.

"I am a little excited about bringing a daughter into our family. To raise both is just a blessing."

"We're so happy for you," Martha says, smiling. Her family has always been so small. She always welcomes making it bigger.

"I definitely think it will be an interesting Christmas, since this little one will be born in December."

"Wot a great gift..." Spike smiles lightly.

"It makes her shopping easier," Clark says with a laugh. No need for any other presents from his wife, she's giving him the best gift of all.

"If I knew it was that easy to give you something..."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"You'd do this every year?" he says, half-joking.

[slayers_desire]

"Well maybe every year is a stretch..."

"More grandchildren would be a blessing," Martha says. "But you need to take care of yourself first." She glances at Spike to see if he agrees.

"Definitely pet. No need to overstress your body." Spike is a little nervous about the risks himself. He knows how dangerous a vampire pregnancy can be.

"We are being careful."
