The Amazons had defended Themyscira from Lex Luthor, and his attempt to claim their secrets. April had fought alongside the Amazons, and seen for herself that their strength and determination would keep Lex from trying again in the future. It also helped that April helped placed the fear of the Amazons into the minds of the soldiers.

With the island safe, April returned home. She felt proud of have fought with the Amazons. They all treated her like a Warrior. A sister.

Her mind was on her unborn child, the knowledge that she gained about this new life inside of her. She couldn't wait to tell Clark.

Superman had monitored the battle from Watchtower Prime, confident that the Amazons would be victorious but still worrying for his wife and unborn child. And once it was clear that Lex's forces were falling back, he could finally breathe a sigh of relief and return home to wait for April's return.

Jonathan is getting old enough to know that Mommy's gone away for a while and it makes Daddy worried, but fortunately he's also easily distracted. And he and his daddy are playing with Ree when April arrives home.

"There are my favorite boys." April smiles seeing them. She missed them too. She had to be away for a couple of days, helping the Amazons protect their island.

"Mommy!" Jonathan runs full-tilt on his little toddler legs to go hug his mother. Ree follows, thinking they're playing a new game, wagging her tail.

Clark smiles, quickly giving her a once-over for injuries, glad that she looks fine. "Welcome back."

"Jonathan!" April kneels down to hug her son warmly. And laughs when Ree joins them, running around them.

Any of her injuries are healed by now, thanks to her vampiric abilities. But she fought safe, ensuring the safety of her unborn child.

Ree sniffs at April, interested by the new and unusual smells, as happy as a dog can be. Jonathan giggles too, because if Mommy is laughing it must be funny.

"Things have been a lot quieter here than where you were, I'm sure," Clark says, coming over to give April a kiss.

"A lot cuter too." April stands up to accept Clark's kiss. Holding him tight in her arms. The nights away were the hardests for her.

"Did everything go all right?" The tightness of her hug concerns him a bit.

"We fought them back. And I don't think they will return. I just missed you."

"I missed you too." It isn't the first time he's had to stay behind when she goes into a dangerous situation, but it does make him appreciate what she goes through when Superman is called to his duty.

It was difficult to speak about him, especially with the mindset of the Amazons. It made her feel a little weird... different.

"I did learn something interesting, from the Amazons."

He's expecting to hear she learned some new combat technique, or an interesting cultural detail. "What's that?"

She takes his hand, places it on her belly. "Our unborn child... is a daughter."

That surprises him, and he's speechless for a moment. "How?"

It's now the weekend after April returned from helping to defend Themyscira. Martha and Spike have been invited over to dinner, and Clark has been helping April in the kitchen to prepare a delicious celebratory meal.

Martha arrives from Washington DC shortly before dinner begins. She greets her son and daughter-in-law with hugs, and picks up her grandson to say hello to him too. "This place looks nice.."

For the meal, April has decided to prepare a pot roast, with oven-roasted potatoes, and a mixture of vegetables. She smiles softly at Martha, when she picks up Jonathan. It is so nice to have her over for a visit.

"Thank you."

"Father should be here shortly." Spike is currently downstairs. Pacing slightly outside, getting a concerned look from the doorman.

Martha has a feeling that this isn't just a get-together for the sake of getting together, but she says nothing about it, knowing that they will get to it in time. "It's been a while since I've seen him. How has he been?"

Clark doesn't want to bring down the tone of the evening, so he says, "He's had some stuff going on, but it's getting better."

"His heart is healing." April won't go into details either. Keeping her father's secrets, for him to tell if he so wishes.

Spike takes out his cigarette holder, just holds it for a moment. Then stuffs it back into his jacket, turning to go inside the building.

Clark goes to buzz Spike in, letting him up the elevator to their apartment.

Martha doesn't ask any more prying questions, and instead turns her attention to her grandson in her arms. "And how are you, Jonathan?"

"Happy!" he replies, giving her another hug.

April smiles at Jonathan's response. She loves seeing the two of them interact. And it doesn't take long for the elevator to bring Spike to the right floor, and for him to be knocking on their door.

"Can you get that sweetie?"

Clark gets the door, welcoming Spike into the apartment. "Hey, glad you could make it."

"Good to see you again mate." Spike shakes Clark's hand. Then he heads to the kitchen to give his daughter a kiss on the cheek.

He then heads over to Martha. "How are you today darling?"

"Enjoying the chance to get away from politics for a day," Martha says, smiling at him. "I enjoy my work, but it's good to take a break every once in a while. And you?"

"Been trying to take a few breaks myself." Spike reaches out to gently tickle his grandson.

April checks on the meals, getting out the plates for the meal.

Jonathan giggles, and reaches out to be held by Spike. Martha hands him over, more than willing to share her grandson with his other grandparent.

Clark helps April get things ready, setting the table and moving hot dishes to the table.

Spike hugs Jonathan, and gives him a little throw into the air. "Hey buddy."

April feels a little nervous. She checks over the place settings twice.
