Happy Birthday Jonathan ((open thread))

Every friend of either Clark or April are going to receive an invitation in their PINpoint, (or at their home, if they are based in the Smallville-universe).

It's Jonathan's First Birthday!
We would be honored to have you celebrate the first birthday of Jonathan Kent.

There is instructions on how to safely arrive at Clark and April's apartment. The apartment itself is decorated for a first birthday. There is a place for guests to sit, snacks, drinks and music in the background. Jonathan is in his best clothes too... which should last about two seconds.


((Jonathan's birthday is April 28th, so pretend this post takes place on that date))

"Perhaps we'll see if we can get some Daily Planet back-issues while we're in the neighborhood," Doc nods.

"Junior? What do you have to do to be considered just a plain old reporter?" Dee asks, looking slightly insulted on Clark's behalf but also genuinely curious.

"Clark is just being modest. His title has nothing to do with the quality of his writing."

"It's more a reflection of how much experience I have and how long I've been employed at the Planet," Clark explains. "Most people start as interns or in the mail room, but I was lucky enough to land a spot writing articles right away. Cub reporters start in the basement and move upwards as they get promoted, and take on more complex and specialized assignments. I've been there a few years now so I'm several floors up, but I won't get my own office for a while. I have to climb the ladder like everyone else." And he's perfectly fine with that. He likes the challenge of operating at the same level as everyone else, without using his powers to get ahead.

"Oooh, I see," Dee says, nodding. "So you need to be there longer and write more stuff."

"It sounds like a very demanding job," Victor notes, fiddling with his fingers. "Though I'm sure you do well in it." Better than he'd do, for sure. He's glad he doesn't have to be a reporter.

"Plus, Clark also has commitments to innocents, as Superman."

"It's nice to have a built-in excuse for why I might have to disappear for an hour or so."

"I'm sure it is," Doc nods. "Reporter is probably one of the best jobs you could have with your other line of work."

"So Jonathan, how about another present?"

Jonathan looks up at his mother, looking confused and hopeful. "More?"

"Lots more, buddy," Clark says to their son.

"Yup, all those packages are for you," Marty says with a laugh, waving to encompass the presets and grinning at everyone else. "Have at 'em, buddy."

"This is your special day, Jonathan. You are one years old." She kisses his forehead.

Jonathan isn't sure why that's special or what it means, but he knows that it means more presents! And he claps his hands together as Daddy puts them down within reach of him.

Clark picks up the toys he's already seen and moves them out of puppy-reach, in case Ree gets any ideas while the birthday boy is distracted.

Alice giggles as she watches the birthday boy, then looks over at Victor again. Looking at the happy family, watching Jonathan open his presents, has got an old LOL back on her mind. She slips her hand into his and squeezes lightly. She doesn't know how it would happen -- how it would even work, given that they currently live in two different universes (for as much as she's around them, Alice's official home is still with her aunt and uncle). But -- well --

One day, she thinks she'd like a scene like this, in a home of her own.

April gently touches Alice's elbow, smiling softly. She sense what is on her friends' mind, and of course... knows that Alice will find happiness.

Clark doesn't notice, too caught up in watching Jonathan open the presents on offer, and picking up the bits of wrapping paper that inevitably get scattered on the floor. The boy's motor skills are coming along nicely, and while he still has fumbly baby fingers, he has his father's stubborn determination.

Alice glances back at April with a grin, as does Victor. It's been a while since their brief breakup, but they're still thankful to her for helping them get back together. And Victor's thinking he and Alice should probably have some talks when they get back to the RV. . .

But that can wait for later. Right now is Jonathan's day, and he can just relax and chuckle over the little boy opening his presents and having a ball.

April has a little book handy, so she can make notes on which presents came from which friends. Everyone will get a thank you letter, 'autographed' by Jonathan.

Jonathan seems happy with all of his new toys, and he doesn't know which one to play with first. One ends up under the couch thanks to Ree attempting to 'help,' and the boy frowns when he can't get it out.

Before Clark can move to give him a hand, the birthday boy reaches up and tilts up the couch several inches, as if there weren't any people sitting on it, and grabs the toy out from underneath. He doesn't look like he realizes he just did anything unusual... after all, Daddy does that sort of thing all the time.

Marty, who happens to be sitting on the couch, grabs onto the arm as the furniture is tilted, then stares down at Jonathan as the new toddler grabs his toy. He continues staring for a long moment, then directs his gaze over to April and Clark. "I think 'no powers playtime' is over."

"Super strength..." April watches her son with amazement. She can see that Jonathan doesn't seem bothered by what he is doing, so doesn't have to react.

Jonathan doesn't get what the big deal is, but when Daddy picks him up and smiles at him, he knows he's just done something right. "Great job, buddy! Guess he really does take after me."

"I would say so!" Doc agrees, his own amazed smile on his face. "Although he might need a sturdier crib now. To prevent possible escapes." He's imagining the kid accidentally breaking open a gap and figuring out how to crawl through.

"Or just a few blue Kryptonite pieces in the wood itself." Clark and April have discussed possible potection methods.

"So long as it doesn't affect his development," Clark adds. He would hate to accidentally stifle their child's growth, whether physically or just with his powers. At least blue kryptonite has been fairly safe so far.

"That could work too," Doc nods, then frowns thoughtfully at Clark's addition. "Too bad you can't draw on your own childhood experiences to know for sure. . ."
