Xander Harris piled all his Superman comics up against the pentagram he had engraved on the wall. He cut open his wrist, glancing over his shoulder at the woman in black behind him cautiously. She could attack him at any moment. But hopefully, his magical bonds around her wrists and ankles would keep her tamed while he was vulnerable.

They called him desperate... and after losing everyone important to him perhaps he was. Xander even mourned those that he disliked. There were very few heroes left. Times were desperate.

A few days ago Xander had captured the woman in black. She was important to his plan too. They claimed that she had the powers to make their world right again. To stop the evil. The problem was she was evil herself. Xander called her Lilith, basically because he had nothing else to call her and it seemed appropriate.

And right now, he was sacrificing the last few treasured memories he had. To fix the world, Xander needed to take Lilith to the Stone of Power. But he couldn't do it alone. He needed a hero. And his comics... this spell was his only hope.

He was asking for a Superman.

"He who seeks for the path, never knows where it will lead." The soft voice of the woman whispered behind him. Xander could feel her staring at him. He didn't care. He placed his blood onto the pentagram and opened the portal. This had to work. He had nothing else...

"The House of El." Lilth reaches up to touch his face. Something is there. It feels so close...

But then... there is an explosion at their side. The wall breaks open, sunlight hits her and she screams. A large Demon enters the building. Xander is also there... trying to fight it back from doing any damage.

He reacts quickly, pushing her behind him, letting his shadow block the light from touching her. His eyes glow reddish-gold with heat vision, and blasts at the demon, hot enough to harm but not kill.

The Demon screams when it is hit with the heat. Xander takes advantage of the tactic, and pushes the Demon back. He looks back at Superman. "Take her to the top of the mountain. Quickly!"

He wants to argue, but this is what he's here for, and Xander looks like he can handle it. So he grabs Lilith and goes into superspeed, heading for the top of the mountain, moving back into the shadows where he can.

They move so fast, and she holds on so tight. When they get to the mountains, he will see a series of caves and tunnels near the top. Any one he enters will get them out of the sun. And to safety.

He stops just inside, and looks and listens ahead, making sure the coast is clear before he lets her go. "You should be safe now."

Lilith takes a few deep breaths, her arms shaking, there are a few burns on them. "He isn't going to come, is he?"

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"I don't know." He doesn't lie to her. What they need to focus on is completing the mission, as soon as possible. He gets the feeling it won't be an instant fix, but it's important to getting this world back on track to how it should be.

How he knows it should be different... he's not quite sure. He feels that he knows it, far deeper than what Xander told him, as if he's been here before.

"He had my blood." She studies her injuries for a moment, then stands up to her feet to look around their surroundings.

"I feel something... in the tunnels. Calling to me. But not the right way."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"The darker forces," he assumes. It seems logical that they would try to stop her, if she's helping Xander.

[slayers_desire]

"I don't want to be dark. Not anymore."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Why?" he asks, curious, as he begins to guide her in the direction that they need to go.

[slayers_desire]

"It doesn't feel right."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

He certainly doesn't see it as a bad thing. "We'll help you. Everyone can change, if given another chance."

[slayers_desire]

Lilith nods slightly. It has been nice to be in his presence. The madness of her voices doesn't seem to be as bad, as she normally has to deal with.

They traverse the tunnels with no problems. There is a plateau near the top of the mountain where the mountain is open, and one can walk around on a ledge. Like looking down in a volcano. And it is almost like that. There is just a glowing light below.

She glances down. "That is what is calling me."

"Is it alive?" he asks, looking down at it.

[slayers_desire]

"I believe it is. It whispers so. The light of hope..."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"What is it saying?"

[slayers_desire]

"Jump..."

Lilith turns to face him. She raises her hand to touch his face again. "You know how it goes... a sacrifice to save millions. You have done it."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

Her gesture feels so right, but why? Normally he doesn't like people getting that up close and personal, afraid that they'll see the man under the mask. But with her, it feels like... home.

"This isn't right."

[slayers_desire]

"I don't think so either." She whispers in reply. "It calls to me... but not the right way."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"It's more than that. This whole situation... this whole place... something is wrong." Hesitantly, he reaches up and touches her face too.

[slayers_desire]

"You are the only thing that feels right." She leans into the touch. A wave of emotions hitting her, ones that should make her scared.

She remembers always hiding her feelings. The fear of opening up to someone. Of protecting herself from hurt and pain. But she wants to let him in.

And it feels impulsive... and perhaps the wrong thing to do... but she leans up and kisses him softly.

He's surprised at first, but as she kisses him, he's more surprised to feel that this is right. He remembers not letting anyone get close to him, for fear of learning his alien origins, too afraid to reveal his heart. With her, now... it's like he knows there's nothing to fear.

He slides a hand up to cradle the back of her head, fingers twined in her hair, as if his body remembers what to do more than he does.

Everything there is too fear is released with that kiss. And it becomes more passionate when his hand cradles the back of her head. It feels so familiar.

Those fingers in her hair...

The memories start to return. Slow at first. Flashes... but she knows he is what is missing. And just kisses and embraces him determined not to let him go.
