the kind of future you don't want to have ((future!verse))
It was midnight.
The perfect time for Dark Oak to be out hunting. There was no out at this time beside the ones she hunted anyway. They locked up the humans to control the streets. The Kandorians.
But they couldn't control her. She was the best one for the job when it came to an assassination, such as her goal for tonight. To get in and do the job without getting noticed and without leaving any trace of what happened.
One night at a time they attempted to reclaim their world. Tried to work against Zod and his army. And tried to reclaim the lives of thousands of innocent people.
And while she worked for a rebel team, Dark Oak still felt alone. Her heart felt heavy, ever since she and Clark got separated. Zod seemed determined in making Clark hurt... and Dark Oak did what she could to hurt Zod back.
The darkness was there again in her mind. And she had to take a moment to stop... and wait...

I can't carry any kryptonite or he'll know. You'll be my lifeline. And despite all this time, despite everything that's happened, he trusts her with his life.

I will be right there... if the pain gets too much... I will be right there for you.

Clark boldly walks down the deserted streets, trying to look like he's on a mission. A Kandorian patrol zooms past overhead, but doesn't stop to confront him. And it isn't hard to figure out where they're going.
A few minutes later, Zod lands in the street in front of him, and strikes him, sending him flying back half a block.

Before he can recover and get to his feet, Zod is there, slamming a boot onto his chest. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you were a complete idiot," he sneers, pressing down. Clark grunts as he feels his ribs creaking, and he can't breathe except in gasps. "How do you still believe that you have a chance?"

Zod grabs Clark's good leg and begins to drag him through the destroyed city, towards the solar tower. "I should've guessed you'd come after me. All to save a doomed race. When faced with a crumbling world, these humans, they'd rather die than unite under a single leader and do what's required to build a glorious new world."

Zod drags him for several blocks, and broken shards of glass and concrete dig into Clark's back and exposed arms. He finally drops him only a few blocks away, in full view of the solar tower and the red sun. "It's tragic that you thought you could take me on like this. Metropolis would not be destroyed if you had all just stopped fighting and joined me."
There's another human presence on the streets now, closing in on them quickly. Lois is running from cover to cover, trying to catch up without Zod noticing her. And now she's armed with a lead-sheathed kryptonite knife.

Hold her back. He doesn't want to risk Lois dying before they can send her back to the past. And if she comes at Zod with a kryptonite knife, she might give Zod an edge over Clark when the yellow sun returns.

It might raise more questions than answers, but knowing Lois that might provide more of a delay. The delay they need.
((heading over to help dad at the house. should be back around suppertime.))

Clark manages to roll onto his side, and if his leg wasn't broken he might try to stand. As it is, he glares up at Zod. "We'll never stop fighting, Zod. Humanity will never lose its spirit."
Zod only has to tap Clark on the shoulder to knock him back down. Lois, now desperate, throws the lead-sheathed knife across the ground towards Clark.
((I'll be heading to my uncle's at some point today for free food since it's Superbowl, dunno when I'll be back, so I will see you tonight or tomorrow))

((oh yes, Superbowl fun times. No probs. You decide if the knife gets to Clark or not.))
