here we go again

Clark had gone missing again. And this time, even though April still felt the bond, she couldn't connect to him through the bond. So didn't know where he was, or who took him, and was as confused as Lana and Chloe as they searched the barn for clues

However, April found something that didn't belong to Clark, but was not connected to his disappearance. It was a spool of thread. And it triggered a vision of Aurora. The last witch.

Knowing that she had to face her destiny, April left the mystery of Clark's disappearance in the hands of Lana and Chloe to solve. She needed someone to help her, and with Raya away there was only one person that came to mind.

Bizarro would help her. And April PINpointed to his new residence, hoping he was free. Her mind filled with concern for Clark, but also knowing that Aurora couldn't be left unattended.

His whole body hurts, down to his bones, but it doesn't stop him from putting an arm around her, being careful of her burns. And he's not sure how to feel about the phantom's death. "I'm sorry."

"What happened to you?" Her concern for him returns in force. Suddenly very aware of how close she came to losing him again.

He doesn't want to overwhelm her with all the nuances of what happened to him. So he sticks to the basics. "I've been in a kryptonite cage for the last... I don't even know how long it's been. Hours, at least."

"The guy who was watching me could increase the intensity whenever he wanted... he was pretty sadistic."

"Oh Clark..." They were both attacked with their greatest weakness. And it is a lot to deal with. But they are still alive. In each others arms.

"What a horrible experience."

"Yeah." And there's worse news to come. "Lionel was behind it."

"What?" Her eyes turn red. Her anger focusing on this news.

"Why?"

"I don't know. I'm going to talk to him later." Clark's fairly upset about it himself, and he hasn't had the chance to confront Lionel about this apparent betrayal yet.

Kara returns, holding the warm mug for April. "Here you go. I hope it's the right temperature."

The vampire side of her wants to use her gifts to find out why, and leave little backlashes in Lionel's head to not screw with them again.

Fortunately, her blood has arrived. "Thank you Kara."

"How are you feeling?"

"More like myself. Chloe took me to the Fortress since you were gone. I rescued Clark before the guard could kill him."

"I am glad you got your memories back. And you were here for Clark." April might have done horrible things to the person(s) responsible for her boyfriends death.

Slowly nourishing herself, her body can start the healing process.

"This has been quite a day."

"No kidding." What happened today, to him, is part of one of Clark's greatest fears. And learning that April was in danger when he was unable to be there... that scares him even more.

The worst thing is the fact there are so many unanswered questions. And right now she is scared for what their destinies will bring. It seems that they are both being tested.

"I am scared Kal-El." Her voice is soft. A gentle caress to his face as she seeks his comfort and support.

((bed time))

Kara retreats to give them two of them some privacy to recover together, disappearing upstairs.

"Me too." He's not sure what to say to be reassuring to her. They both barely survived their ordeals today, and both had to have help. If not for the phantom, April would have died. And if not for Kara, Clark would've died too.

Carefully she caressed his skin, "I am glad though, that at the very least we can be here together and lick our wounds."

"Its just if this was a test for something bigger... how are we going to survive that something bigger?"

"We learn from what happened. Come up with new plans. And make sure that we're good and ready when the time comes to do more."

It wasn't complete reassurance, but it was enough to calm her worry about the situation.

"I wasn't prepared enough to face Aurora. I assumed she would be easy to talk to... like her sisters. And it got someone killed."

He's still not sure how to feel about the phantom's death. But it's upsetting April, and that's enough for now. "Someone who was willing to give his life to ensure your survival."

"Because he loved me. And I feel guilty... for not being able to return those emotions. Its still weird."

Her heart only belongs to Clark.

"Before he came here, before he tried to be me, he only cared about his own survival. Somehow we changed him, both of us. There's nothing more human than being willing to lay down your life for someone you love, even if that person can't feel the same way about you. Whatever he was, at the end, he wasn't just a phantom anymore."

"No he wasn't." It is at least something. Proof that people can change.

"He taught more about love. And how powerful it can be. And I don't want to be scared of loving you anymore."

"What scares you?" he asks, giving her a gentle squeeze.

"I have been really scared of losing you, and that emptiness that is there when you lose someone you love. I mean... having you in my life is so absolutely wonderful. I am not sure I could handle you not being here."

"I can't promise I won't ever be in danger. Or that I'll come home every night. But you know that I'll always come back to you. We've both seen it," he says, thinking about meeting their future selves. "Hold onto that hope for the future."

"I am not afraid anymore. I know you will find your way back to me. That you will always be in my heart."

"I am not scared of loving you completely anymore. This last couple of months might have shaken my feelings a bit... but I have learned so much. I now think that I understand my feelings for you better."

"I'm glad." He presses a kiss to her forehead, mindful of any aches they both still have. "Things like this test us for a reason, sometimes, even if that reason isn't clear."
