day meme: beliefs are more than religion
Day 09 – Your beliefs, in great detail
There is a vast amount of things one could believe in, and it touches a lot more than religion. But as religion is often the first thing that comes to mind for others when you say 'belief', I shall talk about that first.
I do believe in the Powers That Be, the forces of good in my universe that created me, and has chosen heroes to protect the innocent. I also believe in the Old Ones and the forces of darkness because I have seen it first hand. The demons, the vampires, witches, Slayers, Watchers, werewolves, and much more do exist in my world.
However I should clarify that while I believe in these forces, it is not a religious experience. I do not attend church (and am not really sure if I could enter a holy building), I do not pray to either the Powers That Be or the forces of darkness, and the beliefs do not play an major role in my life.
As for other beliefs, the force that is destiny does play a role and I do believe that I was born for a greater purpose. That purpose does change and adapt, as events in my life make me stronger, or challenge me. I do not believe that destiny if fixed in stone. We are not bound to a certain end.
I know when some hear the word destiny, they automatically think it is an event that can not be changed. I don't. Our destiny is always changing, adapting to the person we become, and the person we are meant to be. It is an amazing, dynamic force that a person can make their own.
I also believe in soul mates, and that I have found mine. The person who challenges me to be better, stronger, and is there during the good times and the bad. It is the type of relationship that stays strong even when you are apart, and allows you to make new friends and new acquaintances. It does not demand time from me, or say that I can not stand on my own if the time comes. But it is nice to know that someone will stand by my side if I ask.
