taking Clark to Rome

April was enjoying in her continued weekend-stay at the Kent farmhold. She and Clark had a picnic looking over the small town, then watched a movie together at the Talon. And she still felt safe.

It had been wonderful to learn so much about Clark's world. His school. His friends. And the next morning, April had wanted to return the favor. She wanted to take Clark to Rome in the Buffyverse.

So after showering and getting dressed for the day, April waited for Clark to finish his daily chores. There was some excitement in her heart about her plan. And hoped that Clark would be able to time enjoy his time learning about her universe.

Clark won't have to worry about any hijinks or flirtatious advances. All April wants is to be held by him tonight. Those few times they have shared the night together were very nice.

"Thank you." She moves her arms around his neck.

He isn't even thinking about that, not consciously anyway. He just knows that he should tell his parents what he's doing, but he feels this is an extenuating circumstance. They'll forgive him, especially once they know why.

"You sure no one else will mind?" he asks quietly.

"No. We will be pretty much alone tonight." It gives her another reason to want to have someone there.

If he had any doubts about staying, they're absolutely the farthest thing from his mind. "You couldn't make me leave even if you sleep with a lump of kryptonite in your bed tonight," he says.

"Nah. I got my big cuddly tuddy bear right here. No need for any other security blanket." April chuckled. Kissing him softly.

He returns the kiss, not thinking about how awkward he might be about this if it wasn't tonight. Alone with her, sleeping close together, and he doesn't even know if he's going to be able to sleep at all tonight. Because if he does, he has to say goodbye that much sooner.

There are a couple of things going through April's mind. First how saying goodbye is going to be so difficult. Second how sleeping next to him seems to inspire those dreams about her boyfriend.

"We can lay and talk a little too." Because she is guessing he might not fall easily into sleep either.

"Sure." He knows that they will have to sleep eventually. Probably. But right now he'll do almost anything to delay that.

Things felt easy returning back to her bed. She will take one side, allowing Clark the other side. "I don't want tonight to end."

Clark pulls her into his arms almost immediately, and even though he's never done anything remotely similar to this, it feels right. "I don't either." For the first time in his life, he's dreading the return of the sun. But he will focus on spending time with her now, while he has her in his embrace.

The safety of his arms keep any fear or doubt from entering her heart. And she returns the embrace. "Guess we will just have to make it feel like forever."

He lets out a dry chuckle. "It's too bad I can't take you into superspeed with me. When my reflexes speed up, I can make a moment feel like a lifetime."

"Oh Clark, you must be taking me without even realizing it. Because every special moment with out feels like a lifetime."

Okay a little corny. But it is the truth.

He smiles a little. "The first time I ever ran through a rainstorm, I could see all the individual water droplets, falling as gently as snow. I used to play a game where I'd duck and weave and try to run through it all without ever getting wet. It was like the rain wasn't even real anymore, and I was existing beyond it."

She gives a contented sigh, listening to his description of his powers with interest. April also gently caressed her fingers up and down his chest.

"That sounds amazing. What would you say is the most remarkable thing you have seen, or done with your powers."

Clark is quiet for a moment, staring up at the ceiling and thinking. "Honestly? The first time I ever flew. I wasn't even me. I was Kal-El. And when I heard the call, I didn't even think about it. I just jumped, and kept going until I was far above the clouds, and when I looked down the Earth was far below me like the biggest, shiniest marble in the universe. I was in low orbit, out of the atmosphere, and I didn't even have to breathe. I felt... free." Which is ironic, since he's never been more of a slave than he was when Jor-El brainwashed him. But he means what he says.

"That must have been so beautiful. To see the world like that." April sounded awed. "I am am sure you feel that freedom again."

He smiles, gently stroking her arm, and turns his head to look in her eyes. "What about you?"

"My visions have allowed me to see some amazing things. Like the time I had seen the creation of Earth itself, and life on Earth."

"But... the things that I find most amazing are the ones that have happened that I had never predicted. Like finding you."

"Life is full of unexpected surprises. It's always nice when you find a good one." He nuzzles her hair, thinking of his own life surprises. Most of his have not been pleasant. He's proud to put her on the top of the list of good things in his life.

"You are the best good surprise." Aprill nuzzled him back. She kissed softly along his jawline.

One hand entwines in her hair, and he smiles. "You're only saying that because of my sexy alien genes," he teases gently.

"Oh yes. Once again they have lured me close to your side. And you win again." April teased back.

Spending time together like this, he can almost forget for a minute that they aren't just a normal couple. "Magic and biology. That's all you need."

Being so close to Clark, safe in his arms, it makes it easy to forget a lot of things. All that matters is him right now.

"And now you won me, what are you going to do with me?"
