Rested after a good night sleep

It was amazing how much difference one good night of sleep could make. Especially since that sleep had been thanks to Clark holding her, and finally being able to talk to him about intimacy.

That one good night had led to a couple more, and today April was feeling 100 per cent better. And because of her good mood, had spent the better part of the afternoon making phone calls, arranging some details, and basically had a nice surprise all lined up for Clark.

All that was needed was the guest of honor. So she would give him a call.

Another slight shiver. "Mmmm do they share any common symbols?"

"Part of one." He traces the interlocking circles, the almost-eight in the center of the symbol of El, in the slight dip of her upper spine. "By itself, it means symmetry." Meanings of Kryptonian writing change depending on the context and association with other symbols, adding or reducing complexity. Scores of Kryptonian poetry and literary works once relied on using the layers and layers of meaning to evoke deep emotional significance, and the sheer complexity of the language and culture is one of many reasons why his people seem cold and distant. There's much more going on beneath the surface than simple black and white emotions and ideas. Much like the two of them.

"Symmetry." She kisses his neck. Another shiver of excitement at the sesnation at her upper spine. "I am glad we share that one. It seems appropriate."

"Me too," he agrees. "In my name, it's part of my family crest, the symbol for strength." He traces El, the circles enclosed in an asymmetrical pentagon. "In yours, it's part of the sign for soul." He traces Il, the interlocking circles framed by two dots above and below.

"Strength. That is what I feel from you so often. It was what I first noticed about you." April murmers at his neck. A kiss here and there.

"Matched with soul, and it is no wonder we have faced so much together. And made it through difficult times stronger."

He's not surprised to hear that. He is the strongest man in the world, so far as he knows, although he's thinking in terms of physical rather than emotional strength.

"If I have one regret, about us," he says, carefully catching her cheek with his hand, "it's that I didn't find the Nexus sooner."

It is ironic in a way, because April is refering to emotional strength. Because she saw the strength in his aura. Not in his handsome and strong body. (Though that was noted quickly after).

Smiling at his regret, April moved so that her forehead was against his. "I think you came at the right time. When you needed me most. And I needed you."

He smiles too, and this close, he can easily steal a kiss without having to move. "It's funny, isn't it? We met during a conversation about destiny. You helped me accept mine." Even if he hasn't fully embraced it yet. "And this, what we have now... I don't know how this will turn out in the end, but I think it's far better than what I had before. I feel sorry for the other mes that never got to meet another you."

"And I had known I had deeper feeling sfor you, when you came back the next time all brainwashed." April confessed. Seeing him in such a state had worried her deeply.

"Your other yous might not know other mes... but I am sure they all find strength somewhere. In someone." After all, the comics all tell the tale of Clarks relationship with Lois.

He's a little surprised. "That soon?" He wishes he could say the same, but as Kal-El he was not interested in anything but his mission, and he's always been terrible at sorting out his own feelings when he's in his right mind. It wasn't until their first sparring session that he began to realize what might lie between them.

"Yes, they might... but they're still not you."

"It had been the worry. The want to do anything possible for you. I just knew that there was more than just attraction." April then smiled, and kissed his earlobe. "Though attraction was there prior. You and your hot alien body."

"Later, after you had been LOL'd to a younger age, I had actually gone into the Nexus to ask people if they thought cross-dimensional relationships worked."

"Well there you go. You have me all to yourself. Count yourself lucky."

He smiles at that. "Good thing I'm not a little green man, huh?" And he's flattered that she asked the Nexus for advice, so now he's rather curious. "What'd they say?"

The alpha male part of Clark really likes the idea of her being his. "Oh, I do."

"Most of the people I talked to were supportive of cross-dimensional relationships. And encouraged me to ... well to go after you. Sort of conquer you." She senses the slight alpha-male ness. And drops her voice into a low, seductive whisper. "Though I have to admit that I prefer it when you are the conquerer."

"I'd much rather conquer you than the world, any day of the week." He's blushing a little when he says it, and has to close his eyes for a second to stave off the simmering heat, redirecting it to radiate from his skin instead.

The warmth of his skin is noted. And April bites her bottom lip slightly. "Anytime you want to... I would be glad to be conquered."

Well, his control was good while it lasted, but now that they've come full circle to the physical, he's a little anxious again. "Think we should hold off until I can... not burn things." He's holding down the heat vision reflex fairly well for the moment, so at least she's not in imminent danger of combustion. Their practice has done some good, even if it hasn't made his control absolute.

"I know sweetie. I just got caught up in the flirtation." April is a little apologetic. She nuzzles his neck, carefully because of his warmth. "And you will get control. You have the strength, I have the soul. We will find a way."

"What is it they call this? First base? I am fine with first base."

"It's okay. We can't know where my limits are until we experiment, so I'm calling this a success." He kisses the curve of her jaw, just beneath her ear. "Then we can start pushing those limits."

"That works for me. Since you know your limits, you will be the one directing things." And that gives her another slight shiver. Especially with the way his kisses feel along the curve of her jaw.

The heat is fading again, very slowly, as he reasserts control. "One thing I've learned is my abilities improve faster with practice." Every time he runs, he can run faster. Every time he flies, he gets better. His strength is such that he doesn't think there's a single object on Earth he couldn't lift. What's a small thing like heat vision in comparison?

"I guess we just have to practice frequently." April runs her fingers down his chest. Then kisses him.

Nuzzling close to him, April smiles softly. "Me too."

As they both need time and practice, she is content enough just to cuddle close to his warmth. His strength. And close her eyes in his arms.

And for now, Clark is content to just hold her, listening to her heartbeat. He knows he'll have to leave, eventually, but for now he can savor the moment.
