It is after midnight when April awakens suddenly in her bed. Her eyes glow red, as she surveys around the quiet bedroom. It is quiet outside ... the sound of crickets, the occasional howl of a coyote, the sorrowful call of the cows in the barn.

But none of those sounds grab her attention as the one right beside her ... the beating sound of Clark's heart as he sleeps.

She turns slightly to watch him sleep for a moment. April can feel her vampiric side taking control. The dark desires of her thirst swirling in her mind. Her attention directed to the pulsing vein at Clark's jugular. A hunger inside her that she has never felt before.

"Clark..." She manages to whisper his name. "Wake up..."

"I won't be able to help with clean-up..." Since she is going to stay near William for the next week, here in the hospital.

"But... what would you think about a whole new bedroom design?"

He frowns slightly. "How extensive are you thinking?"

[slayers_desire]

"Don't worry, nothing like taking down walls... or anything like that. Just a new paint job."

"We will have to rearrange the furniture for the bassinet."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"I might be able to manage that."

[slayers_desire]

"That would be appreciated." April runs a hand through his hair softly.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Just let me know what you want. We've got a little time before we'll be bringing William home with us."

[slayers_desire]

"Its too bad the other kids will have to wait to meet him."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"They'll get their chance." Clark is already planning how to tell the children that they can't meet their baby brother just yet.

[slayers_desire]

"You have a plan all at the ready... don't you?"

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Not quite, but I'm working on it." He smiles a little. "I'm just glad Jonathan is old enough to understand."

[slayers_desire]

"He has been such a good helper these last few months."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"I might recruit him to help me paint. It'll give him a headstart on kindergarten."

[slayers_desire]

"The perfect touch to any paint job."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

He smiles a little in agreement, though it fades slightly as another thought occurs. "April... what is Luthor going to want, for doing this for us?"

[slayers_desire]

"I don't know..." April sighs softly.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

He hugs her a little more, and puts his head on her shoulder. "We'll work it out."

[slayers_desire]

"I know we will..." She still hates the fact Luthor had seen them at such a vulnerable time.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"We can worry about it when it happens... we have enough on our plates right now."

[slayers_desire]

"A naive part of myself hopes he doesn't take advantage of the situation." Because she considers Luthor a friend. And none of her other friends would betray her.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Even if he does, you don't have to do everything he asks you to do."

[slayers_desire]

"That will be difficult... I do feel that your life was on the line..."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

He knows she's right about that. Without someone to pull her off him, he'd have been in serious trouble. "Still, that doesn't mean he's entitled to make you do anything you don't want to do."

[slayers_desire]

"I still feel that I do owe him." Sadly, that is her point. And she is too much of a honest person not to repay her debt.

"But I am always cautious in any of my dealings with him..."

"Though... I did ask if down the road I could have one of Zara's next hatch."

"You mean those little dragon things he brought with him?"

[slayers_desire]

"Those were from her first clutch. Zara was the Golden one... the mother."
