Unexpected news can be the best

April felt a little tired after she came home from her shopping experience. Mostly, it was the fact that she had gotten sick that made her so tired.

But at the same time, the realization of why she had gotten sick had made her feel a little energized all at the same time.

Jonathan, who was four now, and Laura, who was two, were both happy to see their mother. Especially since she detailed a plan for them to make cookies for their father -- when he came home from work.

Of course, baking with two toddlers was an interesting experience. The toddlers were going to be covered by flour. And Jonathan is liking the spoon too.

But the cookies are just going in the oven when Clark gets home.

"Got a point there," he concedes.

April moves to sit close to Clark, placing an arm around his neck. A small smile, as she leaned into him. "But you know what... I am very happy to be outnumbered."

"Me too." He smiles, and pauses for a moment. "Though I'm not sure if we should hope for twins," he teases her.

"If it happens... I will just use the fact that you said the t-word against you for the next nine months."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Oh I see, it's all my fault."

[slayers_desire]

"You know me -- I am helpless to your advances."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"I remember you being a very enthusiastic participant."

[slayers_desire]

"I could retort further... but the tiny ears around the table are getting older each day. And will wonder what we are talking about." April laughs.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Good point," Clark says, as Jonathan beams at them innocently. He sighs a little. "And that's why we need Fiji."

[slayers_desire]

"Even when Fiji brings us cookies?" April laughs. There is a good cause-and-effect connection to their last visit to the island to her current situation.

"Cookies!" Jonathan agrees enthusiastically.

"Can't argue with that," Clark agrees.

[slayers_desire]

"You guys are going to spoil your supper. One more each..." April compromises.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

Clark smiles, ruffling Jonathan's hair. "Are you excited to have a new brother or sister?"

Jonathan nods, his mouth full of cookie. "How long do we have to wait?"

"Nine months. Thats a lot of sleeps." He is a little older now, than when April was pregnant with Laura. So she doesn't expect him to remember how long of a wait it can be.

The little boy looks a little disappointed. "Can't it happen sooner?"

"That's not how it works, buddy," Clark says. "It's kind of like Christmas, or your birthday. It takes a while to get there."

"And it will take all of our love and patience while we wait. The baby will come when the time is right."

"But I want to see it now," Jonathan says with a pout.

"He or she will be here soon enough," Clark says, giving him a hug. "Big boys are good at waiting."

"And maybe, once we get to that stage, you and Laura can come to the doctor office with mommy. To see the baby's picture on the TV screen -- before he or she is born."

Jonathan considers this. "Okay," he says.

[slayers_desire]

"You are a good kid." April leans over to kiss Jonathan on the forehead.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"You too, Laura," Clark adds to their daughter. "You're going to be a big sister."

[slayers_desire]

"Big!" Laura held up her arms, excited.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Exactly." Clark is sure she doesn't completely understand what they're talking about, but everyone else is happy, so she's at least picking up on that.

[slayers_desire]

"Up!" Laura then insisted.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"All right, come here," Clark says, lifting her up onto his lap.
