For the general public, tonight the Caritas is closed.

For those who have a special invitation however -- there is a party to attend. And the bar is decked out with every single decoration in the world. There are helium balloons floating up by the roof, in all sorts of colors. And we mean all the colors. There are plaid balloons up there!

There are dozens of candles decorating each table. And these candles fire off little tiny explosions of fireworks every half hour.

There is a bubble machine and a fog machine by the dance floor, so people can mix it up and have fun. There is every kind of beverage (even the 'rich red' for vampires) at the bar.

And right now Lorne is on the stage, belting out a song to "Memory".

((here is the deal -- this is a mixed interaction thread. NPCs will interact with everyone who posts, but I encourage others to interact as well. There will be a point when a major plot point will occur, and hopefully I can bring everyone into a posting order))

Definitely better than the alternative, since it'll help Cipher Nine keep his mind off why they're really here. He smiles somewhat sheepishly. "Yes, I know... I've been juggling a lot of projects lately. A couple of them still ongoing."

"Things going okay with the Empire?"

"We're keeping the Republic on its toes," he answers with a small smile. "Though we're much more evenly matched than we were during the first round of hostilities." He falls silent for a moment, then asks, "How are things on your end? Did I miss anything interesting?"

"Nothing too dramatic. The kids painted the dogs, so that was a new and interesting experience. Work's been keeping me busy otherwise, with both jobs." Clark considers for a moment, unsure if he's told Cipher Nine about Lex before. "The country's preparing to elect our leader for the next four years, and one of the more prominent candidates is an old ex-friend of mine, very anti-Superman. He's doing pretty well in the polls."

"What caused the falling-out?" It doesn't sound familiar to him, so safe bet is, Clark hasn't talked about it before. (The bit about Jonathan and Laura painting the dogs earns an amused chuckle, though.)

"It's hard to pin it down to any one thing," Clark says, aware that if he told Cipher Nine the whole story, they'd likely still be talking about it this same time next week. "I wasn't as careful as I should've been, and I didn't know if I could trust him with my secret, so Lex started digging into my past on his own. In hindsight... part of me kind of wishes I'd been truthful with him from the start. But it's impossible to know if we would've ended up in the same place."
