a very special second birthday ((tag Clark))

It is Jonathan's second birthday. Unlike last year, where a group of friends were invited to the apartment, April has favored for a family event.

The decorations are simple, and tasteful around the apartment. Jonathan is sitting among a few opened presents, playing with the wrapping paper. (Ignoring the toys that were in the boxes for the time being).

April is watching Jonathan with a smile, tilting her head slightly for a moment. This is such a nice moment, with the three of them together.

A steady stream of Kryptonian text begins to cross through her consciousness, transmitted from the Fortress. It's similar to what Clark's thoughts sounded like when he could only speak Kryptonian, but behind them is the weight of understanding what they mean, the immense complexity behind the programming language. It won't make any sense to her, but to Cyborg, his computer components will be able to understand it.

In space, Solaris has realized by now that one of the heroes is touching his side, but every time he tries to turn and fire at Cyborg, Superman attacks with arctic breath, forcing his attention to stay on Superman and Martian Manhunter.

What he's seeing begins to make sense as Cyborg gets the information from her, and he finds the right point to start targeting Solaris's systems. First disabling his ability to move, so he can't turn around and attack the one hacking into his systems.

Cyborg? Martian Manhunter asks as Solaris flares red with anger.

Getting there.

The stream of Kryptonian continues, but now there is more. Pictures and diagrams of Solaris' systems, its weak spots and key points that need to be disabled to make it safe.

Superman can feel some of it over the bond. April? What's going on?

Cyborg targets Solaris' weapons next, disabling its heat beam. Cease your feeble attacks, the tyrant sun demands.

Not gonna happen, Cyborg says, shutting down Solaris' sensors.

You're acting as a conduit? Superman says, impressed. It's working.

You will not defeat me! Solaris uses its own programming to try to hack into Cyborg, following the path of instructions back to April.

YOU.

Solaris tries, but there's only so much that it can do. And those attacks that do make it through the connection are stopped by Jor-El. The column of light around April flares brightly with each strike, shielding her from harm.

You are persistent, vermin.

With Solaris' sensors disabled, the only input it has is from the connection it's traced back to her and the Fortress. You are not human. And neither is your progeny.

In the darkness of space, three of the heroes begin to move Solaris, pushing it further out in the solar system. Cyborg stays with the false sun, linked with it, trying to access Solaris' memory core.

Then you shall share their fate. Part of the connection sounds like static for a moment, as Cyborg begins to infiltrate Solaris' innermost systems.

Always open to the possibility that I will return. Your sun will not stay safe forever.

Now, his 'voice' starts to cut in and out, finally dissolving into static as Cyborg locates its communication center. And after a struggle, the massive computer's memory is formatted, returning it to its original state.

We'll take him out and put him in orbit around Saturn, Superman decides. He can stay there as another, brighter moon until we decide what to do with him.

Solaris' single blue eye stares blankly at the space around it, still conscious and 'alive,' but docile. It has no idea what horrors befell its creators, nor does it remember the years of unwilling abandonment alone in space.

We won't abandon him, Superman promises. Now that Cyborg has gotten into his systems, maybe we can reprogram him.

There might even be a system in this universe that could use him... we could ask the Lanterns. Or the Legion. The Legion reprogrammed Brainiac and put him to good use, so they know that their future friends are fully capable of turning rogue Kryptonian technology back to the side of good.

The column of light around her fades, leaving only the soft glow from inside the crystals. Jonathan is still playing on the floor, fascinated by the lights and patterns that the Fortress has created for him.

"You need not ask. My knowledge is open to those of the House of El, whenver they wish to access it."
