a very special second birthday ((tag Clark))

It is Jonathan's second birthday. Unlike last year, where a group of friends were invited to the apartment, April has favored for a family event.

The decorations are simple, and tasteful around the apartment. Jonathan is sitting among a few opened presents, playing with the wrapping paper. (Ignoring the toys that were in the boxes for the time being).

April is watching Jonathan with a smile, tilting her head slightly for a moment. This is such a nice moment, with the three of them together.

Shelby lies on the floor not too far away, watching Jonathan play. Ree, who has reached her adult size but still acts like a puppy, is busy helping the two-year-old play with the wrapping paper, nosing it around.

Clark has managed to get part of the day off for the occasion, and the Justice League are covering for Superman's smaller duties. He sits next to April, smiling at the sight of their small family. He's always wanted a life like this, and every day he's thankful that he has it.

April chuckles as suddenly it becomes a game for Jonathan, to try to get Ree wrapped up in paper. She sets a drink down by Clark's side, touching his arm.

She is very happy. But also very nervous right now.

"Isn't this incredible?"

Ree barks excitedly, pretending to bite at the paper, but never at Jonathan.

Clark can tell that she's nervous, but he doesn't know why. Whatever it is, though, he's here for her, and he loves her. "Our little boy is two years old already. He's growing up so fast."

April slides into the chair beside him, gently reaching to caress his face. "Like a weed."

He smiles, and runs his fingers through her hair. "A little sapling."

"I know this is Jonathan's birthday, but we have a little present for you."

Clark wonders if this is the source of her nervousness. "Oh, really?"

[slayers_desire]

"Jonathan, find daddy's present. Please."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"He helped?" Clark guesses, watching to see what Jonathan does.

[slayers_desire]

Jonathan toddles over to get a small wrapped box, bringing it over to his father. April smiles, "Of course he did, he loves helping with my art, when he can."

"Thanks, buddy," Clark tells their son, who smiles proudly. He begins to unwrap it.

Ree watches, ears perked, wondering if she's about to get a new toy of wrapping paper to play with.

Inside the wrapped box is a bronze oak tree. April smiles softly, since this is their shared image for strength and family.

At the base of the tree, in the ground, is a small sapling, symbolizing Jonathan. And a small acorn, freshly fallen.

"We are growing our family." April whispers softly.

Clark looks at it for a moment before the significance sinks in, and he looks at her in wonder. "You're pregnant again?"

"I believe so... I haven't been to a doctor yet. But my voices are whispering to me, the same way they did when I was pregnant with Jonathan. And I been feeling sick... and tired... the same way."

Clark laughs and hugs her, and gives her a big kiss. "I love you."

April chuckles, those nerves finally disappearing, as she returns the kiss. "I love you too."

Jonathan doesn't quite understand what's going on, but there are hugs and he wants a part of it. "Hugs!" he demands, hugging their legs.

Clark laughs and scoops up the little boy for a hug.

April wraps her arms around her son, laughing softly at his demand. "And of course, we love you, little one."

Clark kisses Jonathan on the forehead. "We sure do, buddy."

He smiles up at April. "How far along do you think you are?"

"I am not showing yet... and I just started to feel sick in the morning, so I would imagine roughly the month mark."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Well I can't say I'm happy about you feeling sick again, but it's for a great cause." He can hardly believe that he's going to be a dad again. Their son is a precious person in their life, one he wouldn't give up for anything. And now they have the opportunity to have another special little person in their lives.

[slayers_desire]

"You just remember that when all the pregnancy symptoms start kicking in." April can hardly believe that she's going to be a mom again. But it feels right.

"I didn't mind last time," Clark chuckles, and ruffles Jonathan's hair. "And this time I've got a little helper to help take care of Mommy, don't we buddy?"

"Yeah!" Jonathan says, although he doesn't know why. He just likes agreeing with Daddy.

"I have wondered how to help him understand what is going to happen." April gently ruffles his hair.

"We might have to ask some other parents to get some ideas."
