trying to make the pieces fit ((Buffyverse plot))

There was a small gathering of people in the room, doing things that might seem normal. Drinking coffee. Reading a book. Checking sites on the computer. Talking with their neighbor.

But this wasn't a normal day. And despite appearances, these people were all preparing to help save their world.

Most of the 'Scoobies' were here... Xander, Connor, Wes, Lorne, Spike and even Willow had come down for the event. There were others there too... Victor Allen, Clark Kent and Edward Elric.

They were all here to figure out how to create a new Seed. They already had a few clues to go on... but there were still a lot to discuss.

The most recent revelation came after Illyria had deceived the group, and put Clark and April right into the heart of the White Room. Where their memories were taken from them. They had fought free... and now April was more determined than ever to find a way to save her world.

"For sure," Victor says, bowing her head again, stepping aside for her. She feels, so strongly, that this is it.

(And she's scared that Conner really is dead, so she wants to check up on the warriors back at the base.)

Ed smiles and steps to the side, allowing April to pass. "You're awesome," he tells her. There's no way to know how much time has actually passed, but it feels like it's been a long, hard road, and they're finally nearing their destination.

April kneels down by the area where the other seeds were planted. The gem of love is not planted... instead April concentrates and unlocks it with her mind. A glowing emotional chain reaction is caused by her doing that...

The others will have all their loving memories brought back to their minds. Like they are living them again, all over. The love still fresh in their minds as it had occurred in that moment.

April herself realizes why she couldn't have done this before, when she was pregnant with Jonathan. Because in one glorious moment, she becomes The Mother. Going through the stages of pregnancy again, but more rapidly. She feels the life force of the Seed of Wonder being created again.

There is a little shock at this... but she just reaches out to her friends for support.

Clark is surprised, and a little amazed, when he realizes what is happening to her. And he, too, realizes why she couldn't have gone through this earlier. He holds her hand, keeping his mind close to hers, staying with her every step of the way.

She holds onto her arm, supporting her, and she's feeling the first time she kissed Cole, lying on the ground, covered in pumpkin guts. The first time she held her babies and the moment she activated Jude. James... when she named him, the doppelganger who never had a name of his own, who hadn't even realized he needed one until she gave it to him.

She's feeling that time when she was bodyswitched with Clark and she could run again.

Ed comes up behind April and wraps an arm around her waist, leaning his chin on her shoulder. He's remembering his mother, her endless encouragement as he and Al delved into the science of Alchemy. He remembers Teacher, gently tending to their bruises after a rough sparring match with her, cooking dinner for them, charging to their rescue when Al got kidnapped by Greed. He remembers the moment he saw Al again for the first time since he restored his brother to his body, in the psychic reality April created to let them talk to each other... that overjoyed smile on Al's face that could light up a whole building, that tackle-hug that nearly brought tears to Ed's eyes. He remembers Winry... all of the time and effort she's put into the Automail she built for him... she pours her heart and soul into the prosthetics she makes for him. She's brilliant, and kind, and amazing, and beautiful...

He misses her. Right now, more than ever.

All the support is so beautiful. April feels those familiar pregnancy tears coming. There are the cravings... the hunger for blood. All the blessings... all the pains... everything.

There is no birth. Her belly gets as big as possible, then they are again surrounded by light.

And there is a small tree there, growing from the ground. It blooms with hope, creativity, courage and love.

"The Seed of Wonder..."

"It's a tree," Clark says, looking surprised still, but satisfied. It's a fitting metaphor... especially for them. The one thing that's stayed constant for them, ever since Clark first suggested it in the Scourge's fortress, following them from the early stages of love and into the deeper union of marriage and children. "We did it."

She feels like crying. She feels like this might be the very best thing she's ever been a part of. Her legs go all jelly-like, and she takes a deep breath to steady herself.

Ed grins from ear to ear, hugging April again and helping to steady Victor. "We did it," he echoes.

April hugs them all, leaning a little more on Clark right now. Her emotions are all fluttery. The Mother smiles, "Well done children."

She and the garden disappear, with them in the White Room. And then the White Room disappears, leaving the four of them hugging back in the underground hideout of those who were left behind.

There is no sign of Spike, Connor, Lorne or Wes... well except for a large Demon body on the ground, and a few piles of dust that lead out of their hideout.

Clark just holds April for a long, long moment, even once the garden disappears. All this time and effort... and they have finally done it.

He finally looks around, noticing the fallen demon, and the dust left behind. It's impossible to tell if the dust was left behind by the zompires, or if some of their vampire friends have fallen. That worries him.

That's Victor's worry, as well. She's praying that one of those piles isn't Spike.

"Do cell phones work here? Or does your dad have a PIN? We can call 'em."

When Ed pulls away from the group hug, and he spots the piles of dust, he swallows and says, "Oh... that's a bad sign..." He pulls a miniature flashlight from his utility belt and clicks it on, stepping forward a bit to investigate the trail of dust piles. He waits for April to answer Victor's question before he follows it out of the hideout, though, glancing between the exit and his friends.

April looks around. She can sense the worry from the others... but her voices tell her that things are okay. It is nice to have them back.

And the voices are so complete now, there is only the briefest of eye blinks by April when they speak. She and her powers are one. Forever.

"The others fought and were able to escape. Father does have a PINpoint. He took the others to the vampire village."

Clark relaxes visibly at the news, and he does notice that there's no delay now when she uses her powers. "That fast?" he asks with a small smile. When he came into the fullness of his powers, he became strong enough to move planets. He feels that she has just hit a similar milestone, and she's overturned her world with it, bringing things back into balance.

"Good! Good, that's great." She breathes out, then sinks down into a chair. She makes a quick call to Cole, says, "Hey, everything okay over there? Yeah, yeah, things are fine over here, better than fine, really, I'll fill you in later. You're okay, though? The girls and Jude, too? Great! Okay. When I get home, I want us to run escape plan drills 'til we can get it under fifteen seconds. Love you, too." She hangs up, relieved. Seems that the search for the hope gem is so not forgotten.

Ed exhales quietly, relieved, and sinks into the chair next to Victor's, clicking the flashlight back off and putting it back on his utility belt. "Sounds like your family's okay," he says, smiling. "Glad to hear it." Looking over at Clark and April, he asks, "So what now? Do we go find the others and tell them the good news?"

April smiles softly at Clark. This was a milestone and she is glad that he was at her side during it. Being The Mother has me thinking about our discussion of growing our family again

"I would like to check around here first, make sure everything is back to normal. I will touch base with Father, so they can come celebrate. If you gys want to stay, you are welcome."

His smile widens a little bit, thinking about their son, safe at home. That'll be something to talk about when we go home.

"Yeah. I just need to shave a few more seconds off of our escape strategies." She looks a little sheepish, rubs at the back of her neck, "I'm... very concerned about safety."

She nods her head. "I kinda think a party is just the thing to do right about now."

Ed smiles a bit. "If you guys ever need a safe haven, you can duck into my reality for a little while." He pulls out his PINpoint and starts tapping on it, forwarding a set of coordinates to Victor. "Also, I think I still owe you that chat. So... here are the PIN coordinates for my place. You'll come out right in front of the apartment's front door. Anytime you wanna come over and visit, feel free." After a moment's pause he adds, a bit of a sheepish grin on his face, "Of course, it'd probably be a good idea to call or message me ahead of time, just to make sure I'm home."

Ed smiles at the idea of celebrating. "Sounds good to me," he agrees.

April uses her PINpoint to send a message to her father. As she does, they investigate further up the underground pathways that led to the hideout.

There are literally thousands of ash piles.

"Father and the others didn't kill all of these..." April states. When they reach the surface, the sun is shining, people are out in the streets, and there are a few more ash piles here and there.

"The Seed of Wonder has destroyed all the zombires."

"The zompires can't normally exist, so they were destroyed." He feels sorry for the people that they used to be, but he knows there was nothing that could be done for them at this point. Creating the Seed of Wonder was the right answer.

"Hey, thank you," she says to Ed, giving him a quick, shy, one-armed hug. "How's tomorrow for you? I could, uh, try to bake something and/or get Cole to do it for me." She is not a cook. She is many, many things, but definitely not a cook. She can mash potatoes like a beast though!

She stretches her legs, and follows. The feeling of sun on her face is... shocking. Victor's work usually requires a certain amount of nocturnalness, and she doesn't go outside out of costume on her planet because of her paranoia that someone will figure her out. She takes her girls out in the sunshine, plenty, and she's out in the sunshine when she goes adventuring, but it's not often that work requires no costume and the sun.

She squints. "Now, it's not all good. This is the worst nightmare of someone with allergies, or severe OCD." She's joking, of course, but it's hard to tell with Vic.
