things to do with child-Clark

For April, it was weird to see Clark deaged to seven because of an LOL. But in all things considered, she rationalized it occured at a good time. Her own recent question in the Nexus would have tipped of the normal-aged Clark after all.

With the promises of burger and fries, April takes seven-year-old Clark to her house. She immediately fixes him up with a milkshake and a couple of books. Then starts preparing things in the kitchen to cook.

"What kind of burgers do you like?"

Clark nods quickly, eyes wide. "I'm super good at keeping secrets." Of course, since she already knows so much about him, he's wondering if she knows his secret too. Not the alien part; he doesn't know that yet and won't for eight years.

"...what's a fairy godmother?"

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Your mother never read to you Sleeping Beauty? Or Cinderella?" April took another bite of her burger. "A fairy godmother is a magical friend who takes care of a person in their time of need. And have been known to grant wishes."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Fries gone, Clark starts in on the burger, elbows planted on the table to keep his head above the plate in case it drips. He may have learned his manners on a farm, but he was also taught how to eat and not make a mess of the table and floor and everywhere else. Most of the time.

"You can do wishes too?" He looks fascinated and a little amazed. "Mom and Dad got me in a wish."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Only very special wishes." April will do her best to answer any wish deaged Clark may make.

"Did they? They must have wished really hard."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
He nods enthusiastically. "Mom wished for a baby and then the rocks fell from space and they found me in a field when one made the truck fall over." It's an incredibly simplified version of what happened, and he doesn't remember anything about the spaceship.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"That is really cool, Clark. You are a very special gift to your parents. And I am sure they are glad to have you in their life."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Mom calls me her special little boy 'cuz I'm not like other kids." He gives her a conspiratorial look as if to judge whether she knows about his speed and strength. Subtlety, thy name is Clark Kent.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Subtlety doesn't work when you are seven Clark. "I am guessing you mean your ability to run really fast. Or lift things that would be heavy for other people."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
There's a reason his parents have sworn him to secrecy under all circumstances, but he figures she's magic and she already knows.

And she does!

"I picked up a cow," he says proudly. "She was stuck in a hole and Dad couldn't do it."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"No wonder your parents consider you a gift." April is going to have to figure out how to convince Clark she called them... without actually calling them.

"And you are special to other people too."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
He pauses in his burger-nomming. "Like you, 'cuz you're my fairy godmother?"

He is going to be so embarrassed about this when he's older.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes Clark. I care for you a great deal." April can admit that a lot easier to his seven-year-old self.

"Do you think your parents would be okay if you slept over here tonight? I have a big huge water bed you can take." She has no idea how long the LOL will last, but is planning ahead.

((bed for mun. reply more tomorrow))

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
He grins and shovels the last of the burger into his mouth. She likes him. Well, he likes her too. She's nice and she's magic and he somehow knows he can trust her. Granted, it's more complex than that, but he's seven.

He looks uncertain. "I dunno... I'm s'posed to ask first."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I will still give them a call." April reassured him. Hoping a brilliant idea of how to call them, without calling them would come to her soon.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay." His biggest concern addressed, as far as he knows, he turns his curiosity to the bed she mentioned. "What's a water bed? Is it magic?"

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is a bed that feels like you are sleeping on water. It is all comfy and rocks you gently to sleep."

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Clark has never heard of such a thing in his life, and is appropriately amazed. Even though he's been lost and still hasn't found his parents, enough exciting things have happened that this is his best day ever. "I hope my parents say yes."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Continue to eat. I will go call them." April hopes he will be too distracted to ask to talk to his parents. Because she is going to fake a phone call.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Fortunately, Clark is nowhere near developing his superhearing, and he's focused so hard on taking in all the magic things in her apartment that he doesn't even think about asking to talk to his parents. He plans to tell them all the exciting things he saw and did when he gets home, and he doesn't want to miss a thing.

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a small nudge of guilt in April's heart as she fakes the call. She hates lying to Clark. But knows from a previous conversation that he had not told his parents about the Nexus yet.

Returning to the living room, April smiles. "You are set to go. And know what? You and I can go for a race before bed."

D'oh, HTML.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Clark is delighted. This day just keeps getting better. "Hooray!"

His parents have never offered to race with him, but he did keep pace with the truck once when his dad was driving out to town.

"Can you run fast? I can run really fast." Not fast enough to break the sound barrier yet, but still pretty damn speedy for a kid.

lol

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can run pretty fast." April will do her best to keep up to Clark. And just make his night the best ever a seven-year-old could have.

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
By now, Clark has demolished everything on his plate, and sneaked one or two of April's fries off hers when she was "calling his parents."

"I got fast last year," he confesses. "I started running and I couldn't stop and I got lost."

[identity profile] slayers-desire.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is that how you got lost?" April figures something else happened, but better for the story for the seven-year-old mind.

"What else can you do?"

[identity profile] kalel-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Clark thinks very hard about that. "Maybe?" It makes a sort of sense. It's happened before, finding himself somewhere strange without his parents around. It doesn't explain why he was wearing big clothes or how he managed to superspeed-run in them, but the logic of that doesn't bother him.

"Dunno." He shrugs. "Mom says I don't get hot or cold and when I don't wear a jacket when it's all snowy out it makes her cold." He sounds very skeptical about how that works.
