future!verse: the return of Hawkman

After years of waiting for the return of a lost friend, Prince Khufu was back. He did not have all of his memories back, but they were returning. And he remembered saving April.

He had first met with Laura in the Nexus. April was able to confirm that Kaidan Hill was the new incarnation of Hawkman. Of Prince Khufu.

There was a lot of information to share with Kaidan. And April felt it was best at the farm house. And so took him, and her daughter back to the farm with her.

She carefully watches Kaiden. The last time he was at the farm, he was Carter and he had fought to the death to save her life.

He's seen the farm before, from a distance, but never while these strange old memories are pressing in on him. And everywhere he looks, he can see them. The front door, falling beneath the swing of an enormous mace. Men with body armor and guns, spread throughout the property. And a grizzled old man with an eyepatch, his weapon glowing green as it points at April, who's belly is rounded by pregnancy.

And then he blinks, and April is not pregnant, the door is still there, and the farm is quiet.

April stands at his side. "You are thinking of the day you saved me."

[younghawks]

"The day I died." The side of his mouth quirks up a little in something close to a smile. "The last time I died, anyway."

[slayers_desire]

"That was a very difficult day for me."

"The VRA attempted to capture us in a trap, during your funeral."

[younghawks]

He hasn't thought about the VRA in a long time. They were mentioned more as a footnote in school, when learning about modern history, and the background of ongoing metahuman acceptance movements. "They did? What happened?"

[slayers_desire]

"My visions warned me of their plans. Clark was able to disable the trap at your burial grounds."

[younghawks]

"Good." He wouldn't want anyone to get hurt protecting his old body after he's left it. And it's strange that this thought doesn't seem out of the ordinary to him.

[slayers_desire]

"So you wanted to know more about the curse." April gestures for him to sit down. Meanwhile Laura leaves for upstairs, figuring this is none of her business.

[younghawks]

He takes a seat, ignoring the slight discomfort of being in unfamiliar surroundings, paying attention to her alone. "Is it an actual curse? Like... magic and all that?"

[slayers_desire]

"I am not sure what kind of magic... but you and your wife were cursed thousands of years ago by one of your enemies, so that you would live to see each other die, forever."

[younghawks]

"My wife?" He's too young to be married, he thinks, but sometimes he feels far older than he thought he should. And he does have a girlfriend...

"So I'm not the only one?"

[slayers_desire]

"No. From what I understand you and your wife always run into each other. Love each other. The love is strong enough to attempt to break the curse."

[younghawks]

"How will I know it's her? I mean... I can't just tell any girlfriend I have that I'm really thousands of years old and hope that she says 'me too.'"

[slayers_desire]

"You could just ask if she is having strange dreams. Open the conversation from there."

"Or bring her here once. I never met your wife in her former life. But I could sense the connection."

[younghawks]

He gives her a sort of sideways look, like he knows that sounds familiar, and he's sorting through the odd tangle of ancient memories to come up with the right one. "You can... see auras."

[slayers_desire]

"Yes. I can. I am also telepathic. I have prophetic visions."

[younghawks]

"Did you know? That I was your old... friend, I mean. Before I started having the dreams."

[slayers_desire]

"No. Your aura changed when the dreams started."

[younghawks]

That doesn't make sense to him. "Why?"

[slayers_desire]

"The memories are linked to how ancient your soul is. Your aura was blocked... like it didn't know either. Until now."

[younghawks]

"I guess I should be glad that it waits until I'm older to bring my memories back. Growing up with some of these... it'd screw a kid up for life."

[slayers_desire]

"We had to be careful talking to the kids about their abilities. And heritage. So I can understand that."

[younghawks]

Another pause, processing old memories, trying to dig up the right ones. "Aliens and vampires."

[slayers_desire]

"Yes. Clark is an alien. Jon and Laura have inherited some of his abilities. I am a vampire. William has inherited mine."

"We also have three adopted children. We are all comfortable talking about our abilities around any of them."

[younghawks]

"So me being a thousand-year-old guy won't weird them out?" That explains why Laura took that in stride, he supposes.
