Sparring with the Man of Steel

There are not many opportunities when April had the opportunity to train with another person, especially with her abilities. So when the chance presented itself to train with Clark, April was glad for it. With his own special abilities, April would have no fear of hurting Clark.

She took him to an open area, where she had come to train before. No people were around. And it was a pretty safe place to get in some training, without worrying about spectators.

"So this is the place!"

"Yeah." He chuckles a little nervously. "Uh, the other week, when I was Kal-El, I flew for the first time under my own power. Took off from Smallville and went supersonic to Egypt and back in just a few minutes. So I know I can do it. I just don't know how anymore."

His hand involuntarily rises to touch the spot where she nipped at him. "I don't know. It was like... you actually could bite me. Maybe." He's not that eager to test it by letting her have a go at his neck or anything, but it has him weirded out and slightly fearful. "Maybe vampires are a Kryptonian's natural predator or something."

"Maybe it was instinct. You seem to tap into your energy more when you listen to that instinct."

"All I know is despite your bulletproof skin Clark, you still react to sensory touches. I noted it before when I had touched you. And the bite proved it."

She laughs at his other comment. "Not many Kryptonians in my world. Though I would wager your blood would be top notch." A slight wink at that. "And besides... it would be an enjoyable way to go."

"Could be. Jor-El had me operating mostly on nothing but instinct, without any of that 'annoying' stuff like emotions and memories and free will to get in the way. If I hadn't been raised by humans, I probably would've ended up like that all of the time." It's not a happy thought by any means, but he is a little envious of his alien side's control over his abilities.

Clark has been wondering for a while why everyone seems fixated on his blood. At least she has a good excuse for it. "My blood seems to be in high demand these days. The local crime lords have been passing around a vial of it for like a year."

"Instinct is difficult. You have to listen to it, without losing touch with your more human side."

"That is no good. I wouldn't want anyone wanting my blood." April needs it to survive. But for the most part doesn't drink human blood (unless asked).

She reaches up to touch his neck, where she had bit him. And then sort of dazed for a moment as her mind filled with the visions she had mentioned beforehand.

"I'm scared to try," he admits. "I don't want to give that part of me another foothold. I barely beat him back last time and I don't know if I could do it again."

He notices her lack of focus and briefly chalks it up to the whole Clark-you're-a-hottie thing, until he looks closer. He grabs her hand, unsure of what to do. "What is it?"

((Little comes to mind except Clark's Blur costume (http://smallville.wikia.com/wiki/File:Superblur.jpg) - maybe random stuff like his dad's upcoming death, Zod coming to Earth, the Phantom Zone, that sort of thing.))

"I always live in fear of my Beastial side. It took me time to balance it." It is her first response when she comes back to reality. Then she notices him holding her hand, and the Clark-you-are-a-hottie thing comes into affect with a small blush.

"I can not tell you where your blood is. But I saw you finding purpose in a... superhero costume. Dark. A S in a triangle. And... then... despair."

She looks up at him. "I do not want to see you losing yourself again." April does care for Clark deeply. And is truly frightened that he might lose his way.

Clark has been told about the Superman comics, and even met an older version of himself, but he's been extremely resistant to the idea of becoming a superhero. Assuming that since his reality is so different, perhaps it won't happen. This... this is the first thing resembling proof that he's received, and it has him a bit freaked out.

"The symbol... that's the sign of my family, the House of El. Why... I don't..." In the future, does he give in to Jor-El? Is that why the despair is part of the image? And the costume being dark... he wore black when he was Kal-El. Everything about it seems contradictory. And terrifying. What does it mean?

"I don't want that either."

Moving in to hold him, April silently wishes that she could somehow protect him from things that might happen in his dimension. She has met other 'comic-based' people who had their lvies changed by coming to the Nexus, so there is hope.

"If... when things become difficult. Just remember your strength Clark. I know you will be able to do great things."

He returns the hug, not even thinking about the part where there's a beautiful girl in his arms. If ever he needed a hug, now is definitely it.

"I... I will. I just hope it'll be enough."

"I know it will be." April leans up to give him a gentle, friendly kiss on his cheek. "And I will always be here."

He blushes a little and offers up a small smile. "I'll hold you to that."

"And anytime you want to hang out, use your powers, or the like. I am available." April chuckles. Giving him another hug.

"I can think of a few reasons to come back fairly often," he agrees, smile widening. Doom and gloom or not, he's starting to think that finding the Nexus is one of the best things that's happened to him so far.

"I better me one of those reason." April laughs. A moment lapses when she is distracted by Clark-hotness, then she clears her throat. "I think we had a good first training session."

"You're pretty high on the list," he admits. She's one of the most supportive, understanding people he's ever met, and she doesn't even want anything out of him except friendship. He can only hope to someday find a friend like her back home.

"I think I learned a lot today. You're a fantastic teacher."

"You should see me teach other stuff." A little flirting there. But it is all in good friendship.
