keeping busy to distract her mind

April has made every effort to be doing something in the last couple of days, ever since she and Clark were unable to save Evan. Her heart was still mending from losing the young teenager (who she had known both as a baby and a child). It helped slightly to stay busy and concentrate on other things that were going on in her life. Staying occupied kept the tears from falling again.

One thing that helped her stay occupied was that talk with Clark, and how he would be more than okay with her going to university at Kansas State. They had also made plans for April to move her 'home-away-from-home' location from the Nexus and into the Smallville dimension, so she could be on their time line.

A full day was spent taking care of university-related stuff. Such as setting up times to take her GED placement, filling out the necessary paperwork to enroll formerly into Kansas State, and also look around to the various apartments that were affordable and located close to the university.

Acceptance to the university would not come in one day, but spending the time around the campus helped April to familiarize herself more with the place. And there was a part of her that felt quite comfortable with the campus. Especially whenever she visited the arts facilities... the sights and the sounds managed to bring a smile to her face.

Returning to the Nexus apartment later that evening, April still felt the need to stay occupied. So despite the fact she had not yet secured her university placement, or an apartment in which to live, April started to pack up some of the items that she would not require immediately. It was a distraction. At least until something better came along.
