kidnapped by demons: strength of spirit

April has been at The Scourge's Black Forest Mountain fortress for the last 48 hours. Including the first 12 hours, where she had been unconscious, it had been 60 hours since she had been taken. And her self-imposed hunger strike continued strong, despite The Scourge general attempts to coerce her to eat something. His continued ploys losing their effectiveness as April was too disoriented to pay him too much attention in the first place.

Besides the general, the only other person April saw on a regular basis was the half-demon servant. Who was responsible for taking her to the washroom, escorting her to the bedchambers where she was kept in chains at night, and who was valiantly attempting to encourage the young woman to eat something. It was also that half-demon who kept April's water intact at a decent level, taking the care to apply a wet cloth to her lips and her face.

The Scourge general was starting to get frustrated at the lack of agreement from April and how it seemed his mental tactics to coerce the vampire had failed over and over again. In fact at the end of the second day, he had been pacing back and forth in front of April, showing his frustration.

"You must be hungry! Eat!" His words were more of a command than a request.

"No thank you." April denied him again. Despite how exhausted her body felt. Having gone the full 60 hours without food was a trial, but worse was the fact she was also starting to feel the effect of the vampire's thirst for blood.

The general paused in front of April, as if sensing that darker side of herself and its unnatural thirst. "Is that the problem, princess? You require blood?" He smiled, knowing that if he could summon forth the vampire to drink, then his other coercive methods would be an easy feat to accomplish.

With a motion of his hand, one of the guards brought forth a small half-demon child. Out of corner of her eye, April noticed her own half-demon servant going pale with fear and surprise. The half-demon child shared the same features as her servant and obviously that meant a relationship.

Bringing the half-demon child close, The Scourge pricked a little wound open at the child's neck and smiled at April. "Here princess, drink."

Truth be told, the smell of the blood had enveloped her for a moment, and the dark side was almost brought to the surface. This change was reflected in the changing color of April's eyes. But three things prevented any further change in April: the first was the fear in the eyes of the child, the second was the pride in the eyes of the general, and the third was the burning reminder of Clark's strength from the love rune on April's shoulder.

Forcing herself back to her human state, April turned her head. "I will not play your games." It was a determined statement.

The general reacted in rage. He pushed the half-demon child to the side and then took out his anger by slapping April's face several times. "You insolent child! You dare to believe that you are better than me? You will find that one way or another I will destroy that curse of humanity on you. You shall be mine!"

The pain from the slapping was almost a wake-up call for April. And she knew then that things were going to get more difficult. The general quickly confirmed this by ordering his next command to the half-demon servant. "Clean her up and have her taken to the dungeons."

After the general stormed out of the room, followed by most of his guards, the worried half-demon servant came up to April and gently used a cloth to sooth the bruises that were already healing. "Miss, no one survives the dungeons, it always changes a person."

"It doesn't matter. My life holds no more value than that of your child." April replied softly. Sensing that her servant felt both guilt and relief that April had been strong enough not to drink from the half-demon child.

"Miss... how can I protect you?" It was a bold move for the half-demon.

Fighting against the exhaustion and the confusion in her own mind, April visualized the access point to the Nexus and also the look and sound of Clark. Then using her gifts, April sent those images to the half-demon. "Find a way to the safety of the Nexus and seek out this man. He will come for me, if you provide him access to this fortress."

A little scared, but also determined, the half-demon nodded. "I shall. I promise." Then hearing sounds from the corridors quickly moved away from April. The Scourge general had returned with five of his strongest men and together they moved forward to remove April from the magical binds of the chair and carried her away to the dungeons. Watching them leave, the half-demon waited a moment before scurrying off to find access to the Nexus and keep her promise to April.
