Clark has been trying to distract himself by playing with the kids. Jonathan sits on the floor, running his toy cars along the carpet and occasionally over the backs of the dogs. Laura isn't up to such independent play just yet, so she's rolling around a ball that lights up when it moves.

He looks up when he hears the sound of April returning. Already he can sense the difference in her mood. "How did it go?"
