The Mark of Eyghon

It was a dark and stormy night. Spike was pacing back and forth, nervously fiddling with his PINpoint.

Earlier in the day, April and Clark were visiting in Sunnydale with Jonathan. It actually had been a nice outing, allowing Jonathan to finally get an opportunity to meet people from his mom's original dimension. And of course, Lorne loved singing to the infant.

But just before April and Clark were ready to leave... all Hell broke loose. A Chimera had attacked Lorne's night club. The creature, spliced between a lion, eagle and lizard, was quite ferocious.

It was a fortunate thing that Clark and April were on the scene. They handed the baby to Lorne, and went right into the fight, protecting others from the creature. It was a bloody fight. The creature spilled blood. April was injured slightly. And the Chimera was able to use magic, which injured Clark too. But they were able to defeat the creature, without killing it.

But when the dust settled, and people were looking for clues, Spike was worried. He paced, as he watched his daughter and son-in-law in concern. They needed help. And besides those in the Vampire Village, he only had one other person on his PINpoint that he could call in for backup.

And that was how Ed's phone rang.

It's evening, early August for Ed, and he's still on summer break, lounging around at home right at the moment. He picks up on the second or third ring, not expecting a call. "Hello?"

(In a few years, he'll get into the habit of answering every call by simply saying his last name. A habit formed from his work. But for now... he answers with a simple greeting, no confirmation of whom the caller has reached.)

Clark hasn't been hurt, not seriously, for quite some time. He definitely hasn't missed it. He doesn't think anything is broken, but he has a few deep cuts on his face and something is wrong with his shoulder, making it difficult to move it. Of course, all his concern is for April.

April has a deep cut on her head. And she was thrown against the wall, bruising a few bones along her spine. She doesn't feel like moving right now. And is barely conscious.

But there is a steady connection between her and Clark through the bond, even if it is quiet right now. Just that 'I am still here' vibe.

And Jonathan is whimpering softly, not sure what is going on. Mommy and daddy shouldn't be bleeding.

"Ed! This is Ed right! This better be the right bloody number..." Spike is rambling. Pacing and rambling. His fingers play with an unlit cigarette. "April and Clark are hurt. Tell me this is the right guy."

Ed's eyes widen a bit as he recognizes Spike's voice. "Spike? Yeah, it's Ed! What happened?" He's already up from his spot on the balcony, cradling his PINpoint between his ear and his shoulder while he pulls on his socks and shoes, and goes to grab his utility belt. "No, you know what, send me your coordinates, I'll be right over," he amends, hurriedly, not bothering with his jacket or gloves this time. No need, no time. His friends are hurt. He makes sure he has his first aid kit, just in case he needs it.

Clark tries to x-ray her, but he's seeing double and has to close his eyes for a moment to wipe away the blood that's running into them. Hang in there. He's worried about her, but at least he can feel that she isn't going to slip away on him.

Clark gets the fuzzy image of an oak tree in response. April at least knows where to go in her mind, when she needs support.

"We were attacked by some sort of creature. How do I..." He hears several buttons pressed until Spike figures out to send the coordinates over. "There... We are at Lorne's night club."

"Gotcha." Ed hangs up, and a split second later, he PINs into Caritas, hurrying over to Clark and April to get a look at their injuries. They're his first concern; he'll get a good look at what attacked them once they're seen to. He got his initial first aid training from Izumi, and some additional training in it from the military.

Granted, that was for humans, not vampires or Kryptonians. But hopefully some of it will translate over.

Clark sends back the same picture, vivid and beautiful, the same tree that they were married under.

He isn't sure he's seeing Ed quite right at first, but he nods towards April. "Her first. I'm not that bad." Never mind that he usually doesn't get injured at all, or anything. He's not doing a lot of moving around either, but at least he's fully awake.

April's breathing is slow and labored. The cut on her head hasn't healed yet, which is why Spike is so worried. "The thing used magic. Hit them both by surprise. Bloody creature..."

Her eyes can't open, not fully. They are a little glazed over. There are no broken bones, fortunately. But a lot of her body is bruised up.

Jonathan, spotting his 'uncle' squirms slightly, calling out to him. He is worried too.

Ed reaches out to his godson, gently grasping his little hand and giving it a gentle little shake by way of reassurance. "Don't worry, buddy, I'll make sure your mom and dad are okay," he tells him, pausing to give the boy a little kiss on the forehead, figuring Jon could use the comfort. April definitely looks worst off, so he heeds Clark's request and starts with her, sanitizing his hands before getting to work on the cut on her forehead. He uses iodine to clean the wound, and warns her before he does, "This might sting a little."

The glazed eyes make him think she might have a concussion, so he checks for more signs of that after he cleans the cut on her forehead and gets it closed up as best he can with the little white butterfly closures he has in his kit. "I think she might have a concussion," he reports to Spike and Clark while he checks. "Shouldn't her healing factor have kicked in by now?" he asks Spike, glancing back over his shoulder at him and frowning, concerned. He knows Clark has an enhanced healing factor too, but isn't quite sure how long it takes to kick in after he's been injured by magic, and therefore isn't sure anything's amiss with his. But he'll ask when he gets around to treating Clark's injuries.

If she can't heal, he's thinking maybe there's a substance of some kind in the wound that's stopping her from healing. In which case, he might be able to do something about it, transmute it out. Or the iodine might've already helped to get rid of some of it. If it's something mystical that's preventing the wound from healing, though, there's nothing he can do about it.

"Usually," Clark says, but he's mostly keeping his eyes closed, concentrating on sending soothing thoughts to April. It's what he can do to help right now, and it's helping to take his mind off the fact that his own healing isn't going to be as instantaneous as he usually enjoys. Not only are his wounds magical in origin, but it's night time, and there's no sun to give him a boost.

Definitely a concussion. Even her psychic abilities are affected right now, hence why she can't send out more vocal messages.

"It should have... but maybe poison?" Spike's guess would be spot-on. The Chimera had poison abilities that had affected April, when it hit her with her tail.

He nods. "Definitely a concussion.... And I can check for poison." He claps his hands gently and lays the fingers of his left hand gently on her head wound, Analyzing it for anything that shouldn't normally be there, aside from the usual biologicals. It's not precisely his area of expertise, but he knows enough about the composition of the human body to recognize it when there's a compound that shouldn't be there. He won't be able to pick up on the presence of any mystical poison, but an actual physical one, that he can detect.

He also ignores the iodine he picks up on, because he knows how that got there.

He closes his eyes during the Analysis, which takes only a moment, then opens them again. "Yeah. Definitely poison. I already cleaned the cut with iodine, so if that could've gotten the poison out, she should've started healing again already. So I'll have to see if I can transmute it out. I'm sorry if this hurts," he tells April gently, before clapping his hands again, and again laying his left hand against the wound, attempting to Deconstruct the poison.

Medical Alchemy is not his specialty, but the knowledge from the Gateway means he can at least do it without risking doing additional damage to her. Almost everything there is to know about Alchemy is locked away in his brain somewhere; he needs only to go looking for the information. If he were a specialist in it, he could probably make the process almost entirely painless, but as it is, she'll probably feel little static shocks, and a stinging sensation. It will hurt at least a little, but there shouldn't be any damage from the transmutaiton.

((I'm assuming it's something Ed can use Alchemy to get rid of. Correct me if I'm wrong.))

Clark's eyes may be shut but he's listening, and when Ed mentions that what he's going to try might hurt, he focuses even more on the soothing pictures of the oak tree, picturing him and April sitting under its shady branches on a warm spring evening, enjoying the breeze and the smells of new plants emerging from the frost of winter.

April's body does react to the slight shocks, shivering slightly. Reacting with little jumps, that are almost impulsive.

In the psychic realm, April is embracing her husband tightly. The pictures and smells he is sounding is helping her to stay calm.

Ed does his best to steady her with his free hand, until the poison is gone. Then he takes his hands away and leans back, hoping he's got all of the poison and that her healing factor will start to kick in.

He 'hugs' her tightly, holding her in his arms. Ed's fixing you up. You're going to be fine.

Ed is able to remove all the poison, but the healing won't kick in right away. Clark needs sunshine to boost his healing abilities... April will need blood.

Her mental picture starts to get clearer. Ed is here?

He frets at his lower lip when the healing factor doesn't kick in. "I got rid of the poison," he tells Clark and Spike. "Shouldn't—" then he realizes the answer to the question he's about to ask, and cuts himself off. He's pretty sure he won't need to tell Clark what he thinks she probably needs now. He also realizes that Clark will probably refuse treatment until he's sure April's going to be okay. It's what he'd do if he were in his position. (And he very much hopes that he and Winry never find themselves in this kind of position.)

Spike called him, Clark tells her. I think you need blood... do you feel with it enough to drink? He's still bleeding, so it makes sense to him that she can have some of his, if it's in such a hurry to leave his body anyway.

Her body shifts slightly, as April tries to jolt herself awake. I think so... I could swallow something. I just can't sit up, so he might have to support me

Ed moves forward a little when she starts to shift around, to get one arm behind her and help support her if she needs it. He looks to Clark for more direction, though; if she's starting to wake up, Clark'll be the first to know.

Clark opens his eyes now and looks at Ed. "She needs blood. Mine's the best she can get."

Spike moved to Clark's side, offering his arm. He knows his son-in-law might need support right now.

Lorne moves so that Jonathan doesn't have to see anything.

Ed helps April sit up, getting an arm and one shoulder behind her to help support her. He'll look away too, give Clark and April some privacy. He lives with a vampire, and knows that feeding can be something very... intimate for them. Even if it's in an emergency.
