bringing Kat to the vampire village

April was feeling pretty happy right now. She had made a promise to Kat that she would bring her to the Vampire Village, that she had found. And today was the day to keep that promise.

Right now, April was waiting in the Nexus for Kat (and whomever else she brought along) to arrive. Jonathan was home, with his father. Safe and sound.

April was confident that the Vampire Village would be a nice experience for Kat. She just hoped that her friend liked it.

Kat shows up with Ed and Bakura in tow, looking somewhere between excited and nervous herself. She grins when she spots April and greets her friend with a sisterly hug. April gets a hug from Ed too, and a friendly smile and handshake from Bakura.

"So," Kat says, a bit of a nervous smile on her face. "Vampire village, then?"

"Yes. It is a nice little village. This world we are about to enter... well the main race is vampires. It is actually quite interesting."

"They give birth, like humans do. I was able to witness another vampire's birth before I had Jonathan."

That brings a somewhat sad smile to Kat's face. "Whereas I'm never going to be able to have kids..." she says quietly. "But that makes sense—if the main race in that world is vampires, then they'd have to be able to procreate like humans do, otherwise... the race would die out." Ed's definitely begun to rub off on her a bit, as least as far as the analytical/scientific mindset goes.

"Maybe not biologically, but you could adopt." April believes any person can be a parent, if they have the right drive.

She smiles a bit. "True... It's... not quite the same as having kids the biological way, but... That is still an option." She mimics taking in a deep breath, then smiles and says, "Well... shall we, then?"

"Clark and I were quite willing to adopt." April notes simply. She opens the PINpoint to the Vampire Village.

The village itself is small, it has an old European feeling to it. Things are quiet right now. But then again, they arrived just after sundown.

The old European feeling is familiar to Ed; a lot of the smaller towns in Amestris had the same kind of feel to them. Kat smiles a bit as they arrive, holding hands with Bakura. "Wow," she says quietly. "I like already. It's pretty here."

"April!" A red-haired woman was the first to notice them. She ran up to April and hugged her in welcome.

"Who are your friends?"

"Sophie, this is Kat, Bakura and Ed."

Kat smiles and steps forward, offering a hand. "Hi," she says, a little anxiety in her tone of voice. "Kat O'Brian. Nice to meet you, Sophie."

Sophie is a hugger, so she immediately welcomes the girl with a warm embrace. "You are the fledgling that April told us about. Welcome!"

"Sophie is one of the wives of Mykail, the chief of the village."

Kat returns the hug with a mildly surprised expression on her face, but a nonetheless happy one. "Thank you," she says when she pulls away. "Uh... this is my boyfriend, Ryou Bakura; and my teacher, Edward Elric."

Ed offers Sophie his hand to shake, while Bakura bows a little at the waist. "Pleasure to meet you, Miss Sophie."

Sophie moves to hug both men too. We told you that she was a hugger. "Welcome. What a wonderful time for you to be here. All of you."

"They are singles too?" She asked April.

"Yes. They are."

"Singles?" Kat asks, frowning in confusion for a bit. Meanwhile, Ed and Bakura both return the hugs as well, though they were about as surprised by the hugs as Kat was.

"Most of the couples here are... multiple. They have more than just one wife or one husband." April explained.

"Ah," Kat says, smiling in understanding. "Polyamorous. Got it." Kat honestly prefers monogamous relationships, but that's her preference, and she doesn't think any less of people who prefer polyamory. To each their own, after all, and she's always been a proponent of the 'As long as they aren't hurting anyone who doesn't want to be hurt, people should be free to do whatever they like' mindset.

"Sophie my love. If you hug them too tightly, they might want to stay." A new voice entered the conversation. This one belonging to Mykal, the leader of the vampires.

Kat gives the newcomer a small, amused smile. "Or at least visit more often than is practical?" she quips. "I'm guessing... you're Mykal, right?"

[vampire_village]

"We did enjoy the company of our last visitors, who are common to our village now."

"Yes, my lady. Mykal." He takes her hand, kissing it in greeting.

If Kat still had any blood flow, she'd be beet red right about now. Bakura's usually the only person she gets that kind of affection from. "Oh," she almost squeaks, quietly. "I'm, uh... I'm Kat. Nice to meet you, Mykal."

Bakura doesn't seem to be bothered by it. He's not the jealous kind of boyfriend who would try warn other guys away from Kat, and, as April's just told them, polyamory is the norm here.

"We asked Miss April to bring you tonight, because it is a special night. Tonight is our hunt." Mykal smiles.

"The vampires here only hunt once a season, to gather the proper blood supply for the entire village." April explains.

"I see," Kat replies, a nervous smile on her face. "I... don't usually go out hunting at all, actually," she admits, shifting her weight a little. "In my reality... it's common for my kind to hunt every night, but... I'm what most other Kindred would—derogatorily—call a 'banker'. I usually only drink medical blood. So this'll... definitely be interesting. Of course I'm happy to join the hunt, if you'll have me."

"They hunt animals here. The wild life are in a protected forest, that the vampires are only allowed to enter once a year." April explained a little.

"Oh! Another hunter! That would be glorius!" Sophie laughed.

Kat smiles and adjusts the hang of her long black coat a little. She loves that coat, it's nice and dramatic, and she's well-coordinated enough that it's not a hindrance to her in the slightest. "I'm assuming there are certain traditions you adhere to during the hunt," she says. "Tell me about them. And... are mortals allowed to join in too?"

"The hunter goes into the woods with no weapons. Only taking with them what nature has given them. You hunt only what you can, taking no more than what you need. But you do not drink of its blood."

"All the kills are brought to the village, so we can all share."

"The hunter with the best prize is granted a favor."

"And if your escorts wish to join they may. April's husband didn't much care for the thought of the hunt."

Kat nods, making a note of the information. She looks over at Bakura. "What do you think, love?" she asks him quietly. "Care to join me?"

Bakura considers for a moment, then smiles politely and shakes his head. "I'm afraid I'm likely to be ill-suited to it," he tells her quietly. "I'm not sure if magic would be considered an ability nature has given me, but I wouldn't feel right using it during the hunt, even if it were."

Kat looks disappointed, but she nods and embraces him for a moment. "I understand." She pulls away from Bakura and glances over to Ed. "Lehrer?" she prompts.

Ed's been considering the idea ever since Kat asked if mortals were allowed to join in, and he only needs to continue thinking about it for a moment. When he was younger, and he and Al were on their trial apprenticeship on Yock Island, learning to survive on their own, the idea of hunting an animal used to scare and distress him. But once he and Al realized the lesson Izumi had been attempting to teach them, the idea was no longer frightening. He wouldn't be able to consume anything he caught himself, but if he can help feed the village for the coming year, then he'll certainly do so. He smiles a bit and nods. "Sure. I don't see why not."

Kat looks over at Mykal. "Ed and I both have an ability, which we were born with, that allows us to alter the structure of the world around us—the ability to use Alchemy. Would that be permitted, during the hunt, or should we restrict ourselves from using it?"
