future!verse: the return of Hawkman

After years of waiting for the return of a lost friend, Prince Khufu was back. He did not have all of his memories back, but they were returning. And he remembered saving April.

He had first met with Laura in the Nexus. April was able to confirm that Kaidan Hill was the new incarnation of Hawkman. Of Prince Khufu.

There was a lot of information to share with Kaidan. And April felt it was best at the farm house. And so took him, and her daughter back to the farm with her.

She carefully watches Kaiden. The last time he was at the farm, he was Carter and he had fought to the death to save her life.

"You don't lose yourself, do you?"

[younghawks]

"No, it's never that strong. But things slip out unexpectedly sometimes. Like it just did."

[slayers_desire]

"Well don't worry. I will understand if it does slip out." After all, Kaidan is still a friend. And she always has time for her friends.

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Does it wear off after a while?" Clark asks curiously. They never really had the opportunity to ask Carter about it, and it never seemed appropriate. Kaidan is much more open about it.

"Sort of. I get control over it more once the memories are all back... sometimes it can take a while." He's answering mostly on instinct, his half-resurrected memories filling in gaps and giving him an answer if he doesn't think about it first.

[slayers_desire]

"I am assuming it is a natural process that should happen on its own time?"

[younghawks]

"As natural as a curse can be, I guess. I'd say I'm new to this but I'm not, really."

[slayers_desire]

"Maybe you will be able to break the curse this time around."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

Kaidan doesn't answer that one, and Clark's not sure if it's because he's given up on breaking the curse, or maybe it's just something he doesn't want to let himself hope for.

"In any case," Clark says, "you're always welcome here, no matter the reason. And when you're ready, Watchtower will be open to you."

"I am glad that you returned to us Kaidan. I am sure we will see a lot of each other in the future."

[younghawks]

"Thank you. Both of you." Kaidan looks at William. "And what about you? Thinking about taking up the family business?"

"...I don't know yet."

[slayers_desire]

"Hey now. I haven't been Dark Oak in ages. I still help the Justice League when I can. But my family is my career now."

[younghawks]

"Take it from someone who's done this before countless times... it never quite leaves you. I've had plenty of lifetimes where I never took up my wings, but I was still Hawkman at heart."

[slayers_desire]

"Oh I am always going to be connected to my voices. That won't change."

"Especially now I have children to teach using their abilities."

[younghawks]

"It's a good calling, teaching others. Taking them under your wings."

[slayers_desire]

"I have taken a bit of a teaching role with other heroes too. Remember us training Ed darling?" April chuckled lightly. "But my prize pupil, the one who I enjoyed learning beside and with, is Clark himself."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"You flatter me, dear." Clark leans over and gives her a kiss on the cheek.

[slayers_desire]

"Plenty to flatter." April reached up to touch his face. The same love and passion for her husband still there after all these years.
