sacrifices of love that go unspoken
The idea had started innocently enough. April was going through some of the files that older-Superman had delivered, and had noted the dangerous tone of wording when some of the notes referred to General Zod.
She knew in her heart that Clark would require a lot of training to prepare himself to face General Zod. And being human right now was not helping. Especially how it broke her heart to sense his helplessness, every time someone was in need and his powers could not be used.
The one good thing of the whole situation was how Clark had matured in his acceptance of his destiny, and was already preparing to have his powers back. He was going to be a great hero. If Jor-El removed the punishment.
But because Clark could not return to the Fortress of Solitude to apologize to Jor-El, there seemed nothing they could do to change the situation. That was at least until April looked over all the information regarding General Zod again and slowly realized that while Clark couldn't travel safely in the cold arctic... she could. And she could attempt to communicate with Jor-El.
Without alerting Clark to her plans, April made some calls, got the necessary supplies, and steadied her determination for the trek north. At least some of the travel would be easy, as she still had the PINpoint information for the Northern Canadian town located nearest to the Fortress.
But it would still require a lot of walking. Through the arctic wilderness. And without being able to race quickly to the location because of Clark's super-speed. All of that seemed unimportant, as April geared up and transported herself. She had one advantage to her goal, as her vampire abilities would allow her to traverse the arctic wilderness without minding the freezing temperatures too much, and it also allowed her enhanced speed.
No one saw her arriving via PINpoint, nor leave town heading towards the Fortress. No one saw the lone traveler walk steadily in one direction, her footsteps quickly erased by the blowing winds and falling snow. It was not an easy walk either, for it was tiring, and gusts of cold were chilling, and it seemed impossible to reach her destination. But through some miracle, using the determination of her love for Clark, April made it to the Fortress.
Keeping her promise to Jor-El, the young woman stood outside the Fortress and stared up at it, with the cold arctic winds blowing at her from all sides. She stayed standing there, for without invitation inside April was determined to keep the promise that she had previously made on her last visit.
To communicate, she relied on her gifts. Uncertain if the program of Jor-El would be able to receive the information. But still determined to deliver the messages that she felt was so important to Clark's future.
Jor-El. You likely are aware of the battle Clark had with two of General Zod's followers. To it being the reason for your son's broken promise. And your wisdom to negate his powers had the desired effect. He does not feel like himself. He misses his Kryptonian heritage. And desires to feel the fire within himself again. He works hard every day as a mere human to be ready for the day you are willing to grant his abilities back to him.
There was no response. April continued. General Zod is coming. I know that he will target Kal-El, as he is the son of Zod's enemy, and the man who sent Zod into the Phantom Zone. And that Kal-El must be prepared to face his greatest foe by training at your side. I can not image how much more lessons you had planned for your son to learn as a human... but I imagine it is getting closer to that time when training must resume. I have seen a vision where Kal-El sacrifices everything to destroy Zod, and know that vision will only come at your side Jor-El, to learn what he can from you.
Still no response. And unsure if she was heard or not, April continued. There is another danger too. Perhaps you will be able to prepare Kal-El better than I can for the one who is connected to General Zod. But the pieces are coming closer. Time is running short. And while Clark is working hard to embrace his Kryptonian heritage, he is held back by being only human. If you were to see him now... as I see him... I am sure you would see a man ready to face his destiny and embrace his heritage completely. To share who he is and to shape that part of himself to become the man that will lead the world.
I was told we could trust you Jor-El. That is why I am here. To give my faith in you to embrace Clark fully, to teach him everything that you must, and to continue the form the man he has become into a greater one. Every time I glimpse into Kal-El's future... I always see him embracing his Father's shield and becoming the greatest hero of this universe.
With still no response, April stepped back slightly. Do not allow the mistakes made by Clark prevent you from teaching him what he needs. He will always be your son. And will always desire to make you proud. I hope that you will determine that it is time to return his powers. And to prepare him, before General Zod could threaten Earth as he had on Krypton.
It was all that April had wanted to say. With that, she turned and made her back through the arctic wilderness, trekking again through the cold and snow until she arrived back at the safe PINpointing location. And with a press of a button was able to return to the warmth and protection of her home. It was a little frustrating for her not to know if her words had any effect on all, but in her heart April knew that someway... things would work out.
Because she believed in him. And knew that Clark would find greatness.
